Carrie Fisher Was a One-of-a-Kind and Brave Person, Says Harrison Ford; Hollywood Pays Tribute to Princess Leia

Throughout her career, Fisher was open about her struggles with mental illness. In fact, she was diagnosed with bipolar disorder and drug use, admitting that she had abused cocaine throughout the filming of “The Empire Strikes Back” as prescription drugs.

Back in 2001, she was quoted as saying that drugs actually made her feel normal. Her one-woman play and memoir “Wishful Drinking” also tackled her battle with addiction.

In addition to playing Leia in the original “Star Wars” trilogy and 2015’s “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” Fisher also appeared in films like “The Blues Brothers,” “When Harry Met Sally,” “The Burbs,” and Woody Allen’s “Hannah and Her Sisters.”

The actress was also slated to reprise the Princess Leia role in “Star Wars 8” and “Star Wars 9.”

In an interview last year about her reprising the legendary role in the original “Star Wars” trilogy, she admitted that there was tremendous pressure on her because the last time that she did those movies where like a million years ago.

She explained that she decided to do it again but she’s already 40 years older so there’s a lot of pressure. But she said that she needed to get over herself fast to be able to focus on the work at hand and make the story better.
