According to Dr. Mike Cusnir, director of medicine at the Mount Sinai Comprehensive Cancer Center in Miami Beach, one of the most common complaints with his patients is very strong, a metallic taste which occurs in the mouths of patients who are undergoing treatment. He said that one of his patients introduced him to the fruit in his office.
He was shocked that researchers were not doing much regarding the revelation of the fruit that can improve overall taste. According to him, it has been a common complaint among patients for quite some time.
After the Tietigs had lost a family member to cancer a few years ago, they were determined to help people battle the illness. They came to understand the reality that patients suffer from extreme nausea and aversion to eating. Due to this, they struggle with unwanted weight loss.
The fruit doesn’t cure cancer or anything, and it is not a fad. However, it helps in alleviating the terrible symptoms of chemotherapy in a real and immediate way. Since 1972, the Tietig family has been donating the fruit from Pine Island Nursery. The Miracle Fruit Farm didn’t exist till 2012.
The berries are in season all year round and sold for 50 cents to a dollar each. The majority of the production from the farm gets donated.
