And of course, it would not be the first show that has taken a more serious look at those themes, but “Call the Midwife” has definitely proven that it can dissect social issues in a very precise way, analyzing them from angles that most people don’t even consider, so we are curious to see how things will look through the scope of this show.
However, as can be expected, those changes will not be entirely positive, and some of the things that will happen in the show will take viewers on a rollercoaster of emotions. Thalidomide is still around, and the topic will not die down anytime soon – and considering the historic context of the show, it can be easy to see how this story will not only not be toned down, it could actually become a central part of the plot and lead to many conflicts between certain characters. We have already seen some worrying signs about where things are headed, but of course the producers are probably not going to spoil the most interesting developments before we have seen them with our own eyes.
With all that in mind, some fans have been worried that the pace of the show might get a little too fast for its own good, and some of the changes that are reportedly planned could come in too fast.
Of course, that’s just based on what we have seen in the initial previews so far, and it can be very hard to make any adequate conclusions from that. After all, we are only seeing one slice of the full picture, and it’s also a slice that has been carefully picked by the producers to develop a certain narrative and mood in viewers. It could very well turn out that the actual story is different, but we will find out for sure soon enough.
