Some were critical towards EA for releasing their two major shooters so close to each other, but both are actually performing quite well at the moment. Unlike “Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare”, which may be a wasteland in a few months.
There is also speculation that Activision may be carrying too much dead weight right now in order to be productive. The “Call of Duty” franchise is being developed by three separate studios, rotating on a 3-year basis. It may be time for the publisher to drop one of them and change their focus on the series.
If that ends up happening, there is little doubt that the studio to get axed will likely be Infinity Ward. Despite being the original company behind the most successful installments in the series, the studio has been suffering from some serious issues lately.
Among those is the fact that the majority of their talent departed after a major scandal behind the scenes, and at this point, many fans agree that Infinity Ward is just a shell of its former self. Their installments in the franchise have been performing rather poorly lately as well, further adding fuel to the speculation that Activision might have their sights on the studio. We’re going to find out if that’s true in a few months in any case, as it’s too early for the publisher to make that move right now.
