Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare Had a Double XP Weekend, Gun Game and Marine Grenadier Loot Added!

Activision and Sledgehammer Games are very actively supporting the latest release in the “Call of Duty” franchise, adding new content to it and running events that entice new players to check the game out, while also bringing some old ones back. And so far, they have been very successful, as many have been hailing “Advanced Warfare” as the best “Call of Duty” in a long time, to the point where people are actually excited for what this year will bring.

But for now, the focus is on “Advanced Warfare” – and it just got a Double XP weekend, which should have helped players acquire their needed gear much faster. At the same time, Sledgehammer added a new set of gear to the game, called the “Marine Grenadier Loot”, which was available in Supply Drops only during the weekend.

Gun Game should be a familiar name to old school “Call of Duty” fans, as it’s one of the more popular “alternative” modes, meaning its gameplay is a bit more different than the standard modes. In it, players start with a specific weapon (the ASM1), and they can only get a new one by successfully getting a kill with the current weapon. There’s no penalty for dying (other than a Death point), with the exception of getting killed with a knife, in which case the victim’s rank drops one level and they’ll respawn with the previous weapon they were using.

Progressing through all 26 ranks is necessary for a win, and the last weapon in the list is the infamous Crossbow, which some players love while others hate, and it’s been a controversial weapon in the game ever since it was added a few installments ago.

The Marine Grenadier Loot is set to be removed from the standard Supply Drop rotating with the conclusion of the free weekend, so those who didn’t manage to get it during the event are probably out of luck. The new exoskeleton actually looks quite nice, and players have been coming back to the game in large numbers just to get a chance to try out the new gear.

The game has been enjoying a moderately successful run so far, and the general consensus so far is that it was a significant improvement in terms of gameplay, and just the refreshing change the franchise has needed for a long time. On the other hand, dedicated servers were not made available, something which disappointed many players, and in the end the game suffered a little bit for it. Still, it will probably go down in the history of the franchise as one of the more successful releases in recent years, and hopefully, the 2015 “Call of Duty” will be at least as good.
