Of course, there’s an upper limit to that – it wouldn’t really be reasonable to expect the game to remain fun if the kill times keep getting shorter and shorter, as this also inevitably lowers the overall pace of the action.
As a result, players have to move around slower and more carefully, and this limits the excitement of the game for some. The addition of boost moves seems to have alleviated that issue somewhat, but this doesn’t mean that firefights should be made even shorter in the future.
But it looks like Activision know what they’re doing and they have a good grip on the franchise right now. Not many people are expecting Infinity Ward to do something good with the next game, as the studio has significantly lowered the quality of its work, but we’ll see what happens.
Until then, “Black Ops 3” is coming and it’s bringing lots of additions to the formula, which should hopefully push the franchise even more into the future and help it regain its players’ trust. People started losing hope in “Call of Duty” around the time of “Ghosts”, but it looks like the games will still enjoy a lot of attention in the future if the release after “Black Ops 3” manages to live up to the hype that it will spawn.
