Barely two months before the official release of the first-person shooter spy thriller video game “Call of Duty: Black Ops 3” to the PlayStation 4, the Xbox One and the PC, game publisher Activision Blizzard is still making a promotional push to its predecessor game in the franchise “Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare” released late last year.
Critics believe that game developer Sledgehammer Games disrupted the “Call of Duty” video game franchise when it released the “Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare” last year but in a nice way.
As a video game series that has seen significant improvements over the years, “Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare” was precisely the shot that the franchise needed, notes Powerup Gaming of UK.
The game has a more focused story in its single player campaign which critics believe could be the best one ever as it stars Oscar-winning actor Kevin Spacey as the game’s character villain. It also featured more customization options in its online multiplayer mode which formed part of the major upsides of “Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare.”
In fact, because of the introduction of the exo-suit in the game, it has made “Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare” the best multiplayer installment in the video game series since “Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare.”
A throwback in multiplayer gaming
What makes “Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare” tick among gamers, especially those who have been playing the video games of the series for a long while, is its no-nonsense co-op survival mode.
Bidness ETC describes the co-op survival mode of “Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare” as an excellent throwback to old school first-person shooter mayhem especially on local play via split screen, which means at least two players should be together in one room to enjoy the game and all the excitement it brings.
The multiplayer mode not only is an ideal test of strength for a gaming team, it also takes gamers to the traditional mayhem while they attempt to survive waves of enemies round after round.
The survival mode is masterfully done because gamers will have to depend on their teamwork to survive. For every round, players are given the opportunity to clear the skies off by flying drones, defeat a number of enemies practically coming from all directions, or just defuse mines.
And just like any survival mode in gaming, each round gets more challenging as enemies seem to get stronger and smarter. The rewards for surviving rounds are weapons upgrade and better exo-suit capabilities.
The stakes get higher after each round, but it is possible that two games playing together can actually survive it by playing smart to get it right. While a teammate can fall during any round, the other player can also revive him while defending himself, which takes a great deal of courage and risk. The survival mode actually puts to light the power of two, playing together as one.
Reverting back to the tradition
“Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare” has set the bar so high to the point that sceptical fans of the franchise were left wondering whether “Call of Duty: Black Ops 3” would either build on the gains of its predecessor or simply revert back to the traditional “Call of Duty” franchise.
But gamers should be happy to know that “Call of Duty: Black Ops 3” comes with its own bag of tricks, many of which will make them feel that it is similar to “Titanfall.”
Based on recent leaks about the game, instead of the exo-suit, “Call of Duty: Black Ops 3” will have its own jetpack mechanic, but it shall be powered by fuel that can be consumed all at once for a higher jump, or feathered for prolonged air time.
