Brandon Routh, the actor who once played the Man of Steel and Clark Kent in “Superman Returns” released in 2006, has officially taken on another DC Comics superhero character as The Atom and he will debut with his new suit on the February 25 episode of the TV series “Arrow.”
Ray Palmer, the character being played by Brandon Routh in the series, has been meticulously working on developing a new suit for himself in recent episodes of “Arrow.” He will have the opportunity to don the new suit in episode 15 of “Arrow” Season 3 titled “All-Star Team-Up,” details IGN.
The Atom is a fictional superhero character in the DC Comics created by editor and co-plotter Julius Schwartz, writer Gardner Fox and penciler Gil Kane.
He has the ability to shrink and grow his body and other objects to varying degrees including the sub-atomic level while manipulating his weight to his advantage. The character first debuted in “Showcase #34” on October 1961 as one of the superheroes of the Silver Age of comic books.
The CW and Warner Bros have unveiled the first image of the Ray Palmer in The Atom costume and it shows a lot of promise.
Tough to be in the suit
As early as January, Brandon has already promised the growing legion of fans of “Arrow” that they would see him in The Atom suit in Season 3 of the widely-followed TV series.
He previously hinted that fittings for the suit were already in the works and that he would get to wear the full suit before the end of Season 3.
Brandon also said that The Atom costume was very different from the Superman costume he donned in the film back in 2006, adding that he finds it cool to be given the opportunity to wear two different suits to represent two different DC superheroes.
When he was able to finally don The Atom suit, Brandon said that he initially found it difficult to move around with because it’s very restrictive and but there’s something kind of powerful about that form fitting aspect of it.
Difficult to change size too
Because his costume suit is made of armor, that would not allow him as The Atom to change sizes the way he is capable of doing in the DC comics. But it will be dependent still on how The CW show play up The Atom’s role in the series.
Brandon says that he actually feels a bit invulnerable with the suit and upon donning it he was surprised that he felt more mobile on it than just merely looking at it from the outside.
Thus far, what has been hinted is that Ray Palmer and Felicity Smoak will get to have the opportunity to pay a visit to The Flash this season of “Arrow” who will assist him in the development of The Atom suit.
It is likely that The Atom will also be teaming up with The Flash notwithstanding that the episode is titled “All-Star Team-Up.”
