Brad Bird, director for the first “The Incredibles”, as well as many other successful productions in animation – including “Ratatouille” – has finally decided to shed some light on the production of the new “The Incredibles 2”, and shared some insight into the world of film production in general. He discussed some interesting pieces of information, and although he didn’t go into too much detail on the sequel, he did reveal that he had just started writing the script recently.
We got some pretty prominent and serious-sounding rumors not long ago concerning the film’s plot – according to the sources, it will revolve around Jack-Jack and his interactions with a villain who wants to take him under his wing. From the sounds of those leaks, the film’s script was apparently finished or at least close to it – the leaks did talk about various supposed details of the new plot.
However, if Brad Bird had indeed just now started working on the script, these rumors might turn out to be false. The only possibility that they could be true is if Bird already had the idea for the general plot and discussed it with other people before starting to actually write the script. But then, it should be pretty easy for him to know who leaked the information.
And Brad Bird definitely seems concerned with the idea of having his script leaked. He talked about JJ Abrams who previously had to scrap an entire film idea due to a leak, and according to Bird, such an incident can completely destroy work on a film. The problem, according to him, is that people are judging a very early draft of the film, as opposed to the finished product, and it’s very easy to get the wrong impression from that.
He revealed some interesting practices in Hollywood related to that problem – apparently, nowadays film scripts are printed on red paper as this makes them impossible to photocopy with the majority of copying machines. On the other hand, he admitted that this might be a bit pointless nowadays when everyone is carrying around a device that can easily allow them to ruin the work on a film.
From all that he said, we got the impression that Brad Bird is strongly concerned with protecting his work and won’t let the script leak that easily. He also didn’t give any details about the plot of “The Incredibles 2”, so unless we hear more news about the film’s story, it might be safe to assume at this point that the rumors about Jack-Jack becoming a villain could have been false. Which might not be a bad thing anyway, as it means that the true story of the film will be a complete surprise to fans!
