Things haven’t been very good for fans of “Blue Bloods” lately, as there have been strong rumors that the show might be coming to an end soon. While we’ve seen some pretty successful episodes so far, and the show is holding up nicely in the ratings department, there are some worrying developments on the horizon that have put fans on edge.
Most recently, there has been speculation that Tom Selleck could leave the show. The actor, who plays Commissioner Frank Reagan, reportedly already had difficulties with the producers regarding his contract for season 7.
Rumors claim that the actor had requested a higher salary, but the showrunners were reluctant to raise his already high offer. While the exact salaries of all actors are of course kept secret, there are claims that Selleck is actually getting paid more than all other cast members, in some cases with a significant difference.
Of course, this is no valid argument for an actor who knows their own value, and if someone had extended a better offer to Tom Selleck in the meantime, we can imagine that he would be tempted to accept it and move on from “Blue Bloods”.
One actor leaving the show doesn’t have to spell disaster for the whole production though, even if it’s a member of the main cast. Fans have been wondering if Selleck’s alleged departure is really the only thing going on behind the scenes, or if there’s something more that we aren’t being told about.
There have been additional rumors implying that the producers are facing financial difficulties in other regards, such as higher costs related to shooting recent scenes. If that’s true though, we don’t see why they can’t just cut down on their budget to some extent and continue the show in a slightly less flashy fashion.
We’ve seen this claim from some more official sources too, such as Carter Matt. In the end, it sounds like the show has been expanding too fast for its own good, and the producers are unable to keep up with the increasing filming costs with regards to their budget.
Whatever is going on, history has made it clear that communication is key for the showrunners if they want to retain their reputation. It’s obvious that they aren’t allowed to share everything that’s going on behind the scenes, but if they know for sure that they will not be able to continue the show in the future, it’s better to reveal this as early as possible.
That’s especially true if the main reason for the cancellation is the departure of Tom Selleck, as it will be important for the producers to make it clear to their fans that they are not directly responsible for the show being taken off the air. It’s important to be as open as possible towards fans, as they will appreciate it in the future if the producers decide to get behind another show.
In any case, things have been pretty dramatic in the last few episodes of “Blue Bloods”, and Jamie has been facing some issues trying to do the right thing. Fans saw him in a bit of a different light in the last episode, and some have started to question his true morals. It’s possible that he will redeem himself later on, and in fact it’s probably exactly what the writers intended with the last scene involving him.
