It will not just be the FBI who will be hot on the tail of Jane Doe, played by Jamie Alexander, in the upcoming Season 2 of the American crime drama TV series “Blindspot” on NBC.
Apparently, the second season shall also see the National Security Agency (NSA) also hot on the heels of the female protagonist of the hit show.
Based on the new teaser that NBC released, “Blindspot” Season 2 shall also feature the addition of Archie Panjabi, the Emmy Award-winning actress and an alum of “The Good Wife” TV series, as a secret division head of the NSA. Her character will be tasked to track Jane Doe’s every movement.
In addition to Panjabi, two other actors were recently added to the cast members of “Blindspot” as series regulars including Luke Mitchell from “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” and Michelle Hurd from “Daredevil,” both TV series based on Marvel comics.
Luke and Michelle are expected to play as members of a conspiracy waiting to be solved, notes the Ecumenical News.
A reset of the TV series
Showrunner Martin Gero describes the Season 2 of “Blindspot” as basically a reset of the TV series which is the reason why they wanted to bring in Punjabi.
Gero made the disclosure during the recent Television Critics Association summer press tour where he said that there will be more of Jane Doe and the Season 1’s mysteries will finally be answered right on the premiere episode of Season 2.
The show creator explained that Taylor Shaw is now behind the TV series. He added that aside from the emotional fallout between Kurt Weller, played by Sullivan Stapleton, viewers would find out all about Jane Doe in Season 2. Viewers would also know what Orion is, who Shephard is, and what the plan of the organization is.
Gero said that they want to move into the story of the second season and they really want to reward the viewers who have been with the show right from the get-go last year.
He also assured fans that despite the so-called reset, the show will still feel the same but they are already toning down the violence when “Blindspot” returns to NBC for its second season on September 14.
A double agent
Gero was also quoted as saying that if the first season of “Blindspot” was about Jane Doe being a Trojan Horse inside the FBI, the second season will be about her being a double agent inside of her own organization, reports Yibada.
There is also a bit of change in the second season of “Blindspot” as it will be moved from its usual Monday night timeslot to a Wednesday schedule on NBC.
The showrunner also said that Season 2 is more important that Season 1 because the upcoming episodes of “Blindspot” are where viewers will really know Jane’s real name, among other mysteries that were left hanging during the premiere season.
It has been previously reported that Season 2 of “Blindspot” on NBC shall already reveal the true identity of Jane Doe and that it shall also make the reveal through a closer look into her backstory.
Of late, however, Jane Doe’s backstory shall reportedly backtrack up to the time when she was about 9 to 11 years old as the producers recently cast a young lass to play the younger version of the female protagonist of “Blindspot.”
While initial reports have already said that it shall zero in on the past life of Jane Doe, it is only lately that the producers made known that her backstory shall make a fairly significant leap back in time.
Based on the casting requirement for the young Jane Doe, the child actress had to be familiar or is good in gymnastics, martial arts, and preferably capable of talking with a South African accent.
While it was a tough casting call for a young female actress, critics believe that the producers of “Blindspot” were nonetheless able to fill up the role for Season 2.
