While the beautiful Eva Green is the lead actress for the British-American horror TV series on the Showtime channel playing the role of Vanessa Ives, it looks like Billie Piper, who plays the role of the dead Brona and the resurrected Lily Frankenstein, is stealing the thunder from every cast member with her superb acting skills in the show.
Although she has just been lurking in the background in the highly-acclaimed Season 1 of “Penny Dreadful,” Billie Piper pushed her way to the foreground in Season 2 and is now a major player and a driving force in the series, notes Bloody Disgusting.
The site even dispelled previous notions that the show belongs to Eva Green because it thinks that the series now belongs to Billie Piper.
As Lily Frankenstein, Billie Piper brings pure sense of heart and soul to the series that no other character seems to match. Proteus was once such character in Season 1 but he got killed right in the second episode and it seems that the pure soul in him got resurrected in Lily, which is what makes the character really stand out.
Intensely sweet
Unlike Mary Shelley’s famous Frankenstein monster, Lily is being played by Billie Piper as an intensely sweet and giving tortured soul. And despite being a dead woman walking, she actually portrays one of the loveliest characters on the show.
She has become a completely pure and charming version of the classic Mary Shelley’s monster. As a feminist version of Shelley’s Frankenstein character, the author would surely be proud of her makeover.
While Eva Green is certainly beautiful and lovely, and is quite remarkable in her acting in “Penny Dreadful” accentuated by her winning the Best Actress award in the IGN Awards 2014, with two more pending nominations for the same plum in the Fangonia Chainsaw Awards 2015 and 5th Critic’s Choice Awards, it seems like Billie Piper’s character is about to steal the show from everyone else.
She is expected to become one of the main reasons why fans and viewers will become attach to “Penny Dreadful” and will also be one of the series’ favorite characters.
While viewers are still not clearly aware of it, Lily Frankenstein has been appealing and stealing their hearts right at the show’s onset in Season 1.
Lily was such a captivating character when she came on to Ethan, played by Josh Hartnett, filled with excitement and wonder. She was also delightful and child-like during her first night out with Ethan in the city.
