Disney has not said anything official yet about the sequel to the 2014 hit animated movie “Big Hero 6,” but rumors now abound online that pre-production for “Big Hero 7” is now in the works.
The latest rumors seem to confirm previous reports that Hiro’s brother, Tadashi, shall be coming back to the sequel but in a different form.
It can be recalled that Tadashi was the one who created Baymax. He was presumed dead after he rescued Professor Robert Callaghan in a fire accident during the science expo, details Chatt Sports Net.
It has been reported that Tadashi Hamada shall become the villain Sunfire in the sequel and he will go up against his brother Hiro and the Big Hero 6. But eventually, he will become a good guy which is why the title of the sequel is “Big Hero 7.”
After all, the movie shall be anchored on another member joining Hiro and the five others in “Big Hero 6” and thus becoming “Big Hero 7.”
“Big Hero 6” Director Chris Williams recently explained that no sequel will ever get made unless the directors want one and feel strongly that there is a story that needs to be told.
He added that if it is not a great story, it won’t be a great movie, adding that the crew deserves a great story.
Williams also added that they also have to consider the big expectations from the audience who mostly grew up with Disney animation.
Apparently, it is the new paradigm being implemented by Disney because the entertainment conglomerate wants to elevate storytelling and put filmmakers in the center of the process. This only means that Disney would only agree to make sequels of its past film if the creative team can come up with a worthy idea of making one.
Amid the rather pessimistic view of Williams, “Big Hero 6” co-director Don Hall seems rather confident that there will be a “Big Hero 7.”
Projecting the film’s release date
Last year, renowned Marvel Comics writer Stan Lee was interviewed regarding upcoming Marvel movies.
He was quoted as saying that after “Ant-Man,” he and the production team over at Marvel Studios will start working on “Doctor Strange,” “Black Panther,” “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2,” “Big Hero 6,” the “Avengers,” and “Captain America.”
Obviously, he mixed everything up so as to throw off speculations. As everyone knows, “Ant-Man” came out of the theaters in June of last year while the third “Captain America” movie was just shown in May this year.
The “Avengers” movie that Lee included in the list is likely the two-part “Avengers: Infinity War” whose release dates have already been confirmed for 2018 and 2019.
“Doctor Strange” is set to debut in November this year and its first official trailer came out during the showing to global theaters of “Captain America: Civil War” in May.
“Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” already has a May 5, 2017 playdate while the “Black Panther” will hit global cinemas on July 6, 2018.
Given these timelines of release dates, it is possible that Stan Lee shall be able to work on the sequel to “Big Hero 6” after the work on “Avengers: Infinity War” which would most likely be finished in 2018.
Thus, it is likely that “Big Hero 7” will come out to theaters in 2019 at the earliest, with 2020 being the farthest release date, notes Movie News Guide.
However, these remain as speculations pending the confirmation from Marvel Studios or Disney Pictures or both.
