Beyonce is confirmed to be kicking off this year’s much-awaited Coachella Music and Arts Festival.
The annual music event is set to take place on April 14th through 16th and 21st through 23rd at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California.
The initial lineup was initially posted through Twitter, with the full lineup of over 150 performers posted on the event’s website hours after.
The same lineup will be performing for both weekends. The anticipated event also boasts headlining act from Radiohead and Kendrick Lamar.
Radiohead will headline the festival on both Fridays, Beyonce will perform for both Saturdays, while Lamar will take the stage on two Sundays.
As per The Rolling Stone, Coachella marks Beyonce’s first planned live date for 2017 and her first headlining act for Coachella after spending most of 2016 traveling the world in support of her album “Lemonade.”
The 35-year-old singer rarely plays for major festivals, her last one being at the Global Citizen Festival last year and Made in America in 2015.
She’s also making Coachella history as the second female artist to headline the music festival since after almost a decade.
Icelandic singer and DJ Bjork was the first female artists to headline Coachella, twice in 2002 and 2007 since the festival’s inception in 1999.
Many fans are already excited given the extraordinary lineup the highly-anticipated music festival has in store this year.
The “Single Ladies” hitmaker is kicking 2017 with plenty of good news. She currently leads this year’s field of Grammy nominees amassing nine nominations.
Drake, Rihanna, and Kanye West comes second with eight nominations each with Chance the Rapper coming in third with seven nods. This year’s Grammy Awards will air live from Los Angeles’ Staples Center on February 12.
The 59th annual Grammy Awards will be hosted by James Corden for the first time. A pre-telecast ceremony named ‘The Premiere Ceremony’ will be held the same day prior to the main ceremony.
Beyonce’s most recent album “Lemonade” is up for the Album of the Year category competing with Adele’s “25,” Justin Bieber’s “Purpose,” and Drake’s “Views,” among others.
Queen Bey, along with Adele, were the only artists to bag nominations in all three major categories – Album of the Year, Song of the Year, and Record of the Year – for their respective albums and hits “Formation” and “Hello.”
Beyonce is also nominated for Best Solo Pop Solo Performance for “Hold Up,” Best Urban Contemporary Album, Best Rap/Sung Performance for “Freedom,” which she shares with Kendrick Lamar, and Best Rock Performance for “Don’t Hurt Yourself” with Jack White.
Meanwhile, other Coachella headliners such as Radiohead will mark their first US date scheduled for 2017 after going on tour for most of 2016.
Kendrick Lamar will also mark his return on music festivals after embarking on a minor tour last year following the release of his album “Pimp a Butterfly.”
Coachella will also mark Lamar’s headlining debut. EDM favorites Martin Garrix, Phantogram, Two Door Cinema Club, and DJ Snake are also set to perform along with rappers Mac Miller and DJ Khaled on those weekends.
Bon Iver, Travis Scott, and Justice are also included in the lineup. Lorde will also make her music debut at Coachella after going on a hiatus for almost two years.
The 20-year-old singer took a break after her “Lourde” tour in 2014 following her debut album “Pure Heroine.”
Fans were also quick to notice that legendary composer Hans Zimmer is set to perform. Zimmer has been in the industry for the last four decades, scoring a slew of films such as Disney’s “The Lion King,” “Pirates of the Caribbean” series, “Inception,” and “Interstellar.”
