There were rumors going around as early as August that “Breaking Bad” iconic characters Walter White, played by Bryan Cranston, and Jesse Pinkman, played by Aaron Paul, will make an appearance in Season 2 of the American drama TV series “Better Call Saul” when it premieres on AMC early next year.
Moviepilot thinks that those rumors are merely wishful thinking of fans of both “Better Call Saul” and “Breaking Bad” and such crossover seems not appropriate at least in the second season of the spinoff series.
“Better Call Saul” will have to stand on its own feet or live up to its own merits because having those two iconic characters coming in and propping up its cast in Season 2 would only put the spinoff series under the microscope. It will certainly be compared to “Breaking Bad” and considering how superb the mother series is, “Better Call Saul” would just be under too much but otherwise unnecessary pressure.
As a prequel to “Breaking Bad,” it would also come off as rather absurd if “Better Call Saul” will compete with it in terms of quality because it simply would not make sense at all.
Other “Breaking Bad” characters showing up
However, it is very much possible that the supporting characters in “Breaking Bad” may show up in the Season 2 of “Better Call Saul.”
One of the likely characters who will appear in the spinoff series is Gustavo Fring, played by Giancarlo Esposito, since he is a major drug kingpin in “Breaking Bad” and that there is a purpose in his role. It would show to viewers how Gustavo became one of the biggest names in the drug trade.
There is also a good chance that Francesca, played by Tina Parker, will also come out in Season 2 especially when Saul Goodman finally emerges from Jimmy McGill. She was Honey Tits and Saul’s secretary in “Breaking Bad.” Apart from being his vitamin keeper, Francesca was also a talented negotiator.
It was show creators Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould who have recently hinted that some famous “Breaking Bad” characters will be joining “Better Call Saul,” without going into specifics, leaving fans to merely speculate. But the duo did give fans a glimpse of several locations where the plot of Season 2 of the popular spinoff series will be happening.
Gilligan and Gould recently showed fans a photo of a dumpster through social media where they both urged fans to dig into the mystery of Season 2 of “Better Call Saul.”
Previous reports about the plotline of Season 2 of “Better Call Saul” indicate that it will be the time that will show the transition of Jimmy McGill to Saul Goodman.
Hints of the transformation
During the first season of “Better Call Saul,” there were already hints of the emergence of Saul from Jimmy as he has come to terms with the fact that he is not to be one of society’s good guys.
The speech of Michael ‘Mike’ Ehrmantraut in episode 9 of Season 1 was actually on target to Saul’s eventual transformation. He said that he has known good criminals and bad cops as well as bad priests and honorable thieves.
He added that one can be on one side of the law or the other but if he makes a deal with somebody, he got to keep his word.
Mike went on to say that Jimmy took something that was not his and sold it for a profit so he is now a criminal. As to whether he would be a good or bad criminal, it is up to him.
