Season 2 of the American TV drama series “Better Call Saul” is set to air on AMC early next year, but a couple of behind-the-scenes photos of the ongoing production have already been officially made public as of late.
As a spinoff and prequel series to the widely popular “Breaking Bad” TV show also on AMC, every fan knows that Saul Goodman, deliciously portrayed by Bob Odenkirk, is a villain in the latter series. However, in “Better Call Saul,” he started off as a good small-time lawyer James Morgan ‘Jimmy’ McGill.
He was Jimmy McGill in the entire first season of “Better Call Saul.” While he showed traces of his future self, he never metamorphosed into a villain, or not just yet. Apparently, Jimmy’s transformation to Saul will happen in Season 2.
According to the International Business Times of India, the TV series will take viewers through a new journey when it returns and the focus of the second season will be the transition of Jimmy McGill to Saul Goodman. Prior to turning into a villain, the character will have to go through a lot of changes which the upcoming Season 2 episodes will dwell into.
Behind-the-scenes photos
Even though the series is still to hit the TV screen early next year, fans of “Better Call Saul” got a glimpse of Jimmy McGill through one of the two officially released behind-the-scenes photos of the show’s Season 2, which is currently on production, details Venture Capital Post.
One of the photos focuses on showrunners Peter Gould and Vince Gilligan while the other image shows McGill looking like running into trouble as he is seemingly being confronted by two men.
In a recent interview, Peter Gould said that fans of the show should look forward to in Season 2 of “Better Call Saul” how close is Jimmy McGill to becoming the guy whom they met in “Breaking Bad,” obviously referring to Saul Goodman, who always recommend murder as a business strategy.
He added that Jimmy McGill is a character that he loves and roots for and it really makes him a little sad and worried to see how Jimmy is going to evolve into a totally different person, which is inevitable anyway considering that “Better Call Saul” is the prequel of “Breaking Bad.”
Better remembered as Jimmy McGill
Bob Odenkirk, however, believes that fans of the show will remember more his character Jimmy McGill rather than his villainous transformation in Saul Goodman. He said that as time goes by, viewers will no longer see Saul Goodman in the character, but Jimmy McGill playing Saul Goodman.
It remains to be seen if fans of the show will take the transformation of Jimmy McGill positively and make Season 2 the success that Season 1 was or altogether stop watching the show because Saul Goodman has taken over the character.
However, the transition of Jimmy into Saul will not be immediate. There will be a lot of things happening first before he evolves into his alter-ego.
Because of excellent make and acting in the first season, Season 2 of “Better Call Saul” is expected to get more recognition from award-giving bodies. The show’s premiere season got six Primetime Emmy Nominations including Outstanding Drama Series, Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series, and Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series.
Set in 2002, “Better Call Saul” is the story of Jimmy McGill, some six years before his appearance as Saul Goodman in “Breaking Bad.” Although a spinoff series, events after the original series are also briefly explored.
Season 1 of “Better Call Saul” premiered on AMC on February 8, 2015, which consisted of 10 episodes. Even before the start of the first season, the second season, composed of 13 episodes, was already ordered in June 2014 for airing in early 2016.
