The air date for the next season of Sherlock, one of the most popular TV series has been revealed. Renowned actor Benedict Cumberbatch who has played the role of Sherlock ever since Season 1, said that he thinks there is much need for a break after the completion of the upcoming Season 4.
A report from Telegraph, Cumberbatch recently said that according to him, there would be a lull. He doesn’t think that it will be in a year and a half, but they will have to wait and see. Benedict Cumberbatch recently had a successful debut in Marvel as Doctor Strange.
He said that after viewers go through Sherlock Season 4, they will agree that there needs to be a break because of what takes place in Season 4.
Meanwhile, speaking of his role in Doctor Strange, he clarified that if Sherlock Season 5 takes a longer break than intended, it is not connected to his new Marvel stint.
He said, “[Marvel] rescheduled their showtimes to accommodate Sherlock. There is a tremendous mutual understanding between the two companies, which is why they have no problems whatsoever in rescheduling the show’s air slot.”
He also informed that initially, he turned down Doctor Strange due to his tight schedule, but Marvel kept coming back to him as a result of which, they decided to adjust the filming of the movie to suit Cumberbatch’s schedule more favorably.
The official trailer for Sherlock Season 4 was featured in BBC, late last month. A cryptic message was issued, “Everything they know will be tested. Everyone they know is under threat.” On top of that, the trailer ended with a highly terrified look on Sherlock’s face. Season 4 of Sherlock will air on 1st January 2017 on BBC.
In Season 4, Sherlock and Dr. Watson (played by Martin Freeman) will dig deep into the roots of Holmes. The new season will bring major revelations on Sherlock Holmes. Benedict Cumberbatch took the small screen by storm as the youngest actor to play Sherlock Holmes, the famous character by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.
According to The Huffington Post, Season 4 will bring out more of Sherlock Holmes’ history. According to Cumberbatch, when he first joined the series, co-writer, and co-creator Steven Moffat did not provide much backstory on his character.
He said that this is one of the difficulties while playing Sherlock. Benedict Cumberbatch reports that playing Sherlock in Season 4 felt much like an imposter and this is because his portrayal of the character has mainly been guesswork.
The worst was when he played the violin as Sherlock. It is a skill which takes years of adolescent and childhood practice time. However, he admitted that for the most part, the guesswork seems to be pretty active.
Sherlock Holmes is unique in more ways than one and understanding his backstory would have provided Benedict Cumberbatch with a stronger direction during his scenes.
In spite of several misgivings, his performance has been hailed to be one of the best portrayals of Sherlock Holmes’ character by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. As a result, fans were mighty concerned when speculations suggested that Benedict Cumberbatch might be replaced by someone else after Season 4 ends.
Cumberbatch further reported that Sherlock Season 4 would be followed by a break in the series, but that doesn’t mean cancellation in any way. Mark Gatiss (Mycroft Holmes), Co-creator and co-writer, further assured that he would continue to be the star in Season 5 of Sherlock.
In other news, fans have to wait for Irene Adler’s return, and this has been going on for quite some time. People are wondering if it’s possible for Lara Pulver’s character to come back in season 4 if only to be used as a weapon against Sherlock. Speculations suggest that Moriarty will come back to terrorize Holmes again.
