Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie did not receive the major award during the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards held on March 28, but it was her empowering short speech to the youth that made the most significant impact during the night.
Jolie accepted the Favorite Villain Award for her role in Disney Pictures “Maleficent” but her brief message of acceptance was that one that stuck firmly on the hearts of the youngsters who comprised the majority of the crowd.
She told the young ones that when people tell them that they’re different, they should all hold up their heads and feel proud about it.
Angelina recalled that when she was young, she was also told that she was different from other kids. She remembered feeling out of place, either she finds it too loud, too full of fire, never good at sitting still, and never good at fitting in, notes Yahoo! News.
But as it turned out, her being different is what made her who she is today – a very successful Hollywood actress and filmmaker. She ended her message that it’s really good to be different because a little trouble is also good the young ones, eliciting smiles and warm applause from the audience.
Jolie attended the Nickelodeon Kid’s Choice Awards with daughter Shiloh and Zahara. When her name was announced, her two kids excitedly hugged her before she went up the stage to receive her award and deliver her words of inspiration.
An inspiration to women
Angelina Jolie has been a true source of inspiration for women especially with her recent surgery which was aimed at preventing the possible onset of ovarian cancer.
She was very candid and frank about her whole health situation, recounting what she has gone through by writing in the Op Ed section of the New York Times on March 24.
Despite of the fact that she will no longer be able to give birth again as the operation involved the removal of her ovaries and fallopian tubes, the 39-year-old actress accepted her fate with open arms, citing that she will be ready for the physical change that will most likely come with it.
Some two years ago, Angelina revealed that she has in her a breast cancer gene which comes from her family. She was also diagnosed to have a very high risk for developing both breast and ovarian cancer.
Her mother and maternal grandmother died of ovarian cancer indicating that the cancer gene runs in the family blood.
The findings then led the actress to have her healthy breasts removed to avoid getting breast cancer. Then two weeks ago, she had her ovaries and fallopian tubes also removed to eliminate the risk of getting an ovarian cancer. Her husband Brad Pitt has been very supportive of her all throughout her health ordeal.
