There has been a new round of leaks on the upcoming first-person shooter video game “Battlefield 5” that is currently in development by game developer Digital Illusions Computer Entertainment (DICE) and for likely release by game publisher Electronic Arts.
Accordingly, the leaks only confirm previous rumors saying that “Battlefield 5” will take place during the World War I or an alternate history version of that conflict, notes Polygon.
One of the leaks that recently came out featured an artwork which reportedly came from the upcoming first-person shooter video game showing a soldier armed with an early 20th-century pistol, a rifle, and a spiked trench club.
The same soldier also appears to be standing in front of a zeppelin, an airship that was used during World War I.
Assuming that the rumors about the supposed leaks are true, the setting of “Battlefield 5” will be in stark contrast to its rival game from Activision, “Call of Duty,” which will reportedly be venturing far into the future and deep space with the release later this year of “Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare.”
The official game title
There are also reports saying that the official title of “Battlefield 5” is going to be “Battlefield 1” and that it is going to hit the PlayStation 4, the Xbox One, and the PC on October 18 this year, cites Forbes.
As a matter of fact, there is now a pre-order incentive to gamers which is called the Hellfighter Pack, which shall be included as part of the game.
The Hellfighter Pack includes items inspired by the US Army’s 369th Infantry Regiment, which is also known as the Harlem Hellfighters.
According to reports that if the game lives up to its hype, “Battlefield 5” is sure to give other first-person shooter video games in the market a serious run for the gamers’ money, particularly in the aspect of sales.
In fact, there are reports citing that Activision is now getting worried that the sales of its next “Call of Duty” game will be affected by the release of “Battlefield 5” later this year. The “Call of Duty” franchise is also one of the more renowned first-person shooter video games around.
Bound to rule the market
In a recent interview, Michael Pachter, a video game analyst at Wedbush Securities predicts that “Battlefield 5” shall rule over the first-person shooter video games lot when it comes out later in 2016. He said that he is confident of his prediction because “Battlefield 5” shall have less overall competition when it gets released to the gaming consoles and the PC.
Unlike last year, when the first-person shooter video games market was a bit crowded with five releases including “Fallout 4,” “Halo 5: Guardians,” “Battlefront,” “Assassin’s Creed Syndicate,” and “Call of Duty: Black Ops 3,” this year it will just be “Battlefield 5” and the “Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare.” So it is going to be a toss-up with the victor emerging quite clearly after.
Based on previous reports, “Battlefield 5” will most likely come out to the gaming consoles and the PC in October this year, which is usually the time when game developers release their new offerings in order to capitalize on the upcoming Holiday Season sales, particularly the Black Friday sales event in November.
However, there are also rumors suggesting that “Battlefield” will officially come out on December 6. As it is the game will officially come out on October 18 and the announcement came no less from both DICE and EA.
It seems that game developer DICE is also raising the graphics quality of “Battlefield 5” as latest reports have it that it is looking to employ someone who is familiar with the Frostbite Engine, which is the set of tools that it is using for the development of the upcoming video game.
Based on a recent job listing, the developer seems determined to improve its Frostbite Engine’s LOD performance and image stability.
The listing also cited that the successful applicant shall work on a game team at DICE to plan, implement, and evaluate a system for computing optimal view distances for mesh LOD transition.
