There were apprehensions by some multiplayer first-person shooter fans that the air units would be able to overwhelm the ground units because of its obvious advantage but EA DICE Lead Level Designer Dan Berlin assured fans during the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) 2016 that they have handled it quite well.
Berlin said that there is a balance between ground air and units in “Battlefield 1” and that regular rounds from anti-air, stationary weapons can actually damage airplanes.
The designer said that “Battlefield 1” players can just sit in the flak guns and just shoot at the airplanes going by.
He also explained that when players shoot regular rounds at airplanes going by, it would not damage the aircraft that much. However, when the aircraft is coming down for a bomb run, and players fire at them, they can do a ton of damage.
Berlin said that gamers can even take out the pilot of an airplane with a well-placed sniper shot, explaining further that it is their way of balancing the game.
He also said that there is also a bit of logic to it because an airplane high above the clouds is hard to hit compared to one that is going down to make an assault against ground units.
