In the latest full-length trailer of “Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice” shown at the recently-concluded ComicCon 2015 in San Diego, it was revealed how Lex Luthor, played by Jesse Eisenberg, came out to be the cunning and very powerful villain that everybody knows he is.
There was even a portion where Superman, played by Henry Cavill, was seen kneeling before Lex Luthor, who appears to have gotten the number of the Man of Steel by taking possession of a big chunk of kryptonite.
Everyone knows that kryptonite is Superman’s weakness and it appears from the trailer that Luthor got the material from Zod himself or his remains, that is.
The trailer also featured Mercy Graves, played by Tao Okamoto, with Zod’s body in tow inside a military facility, details Comic Book Resources. Two military personnel were seen helping out Mercy Graves in pushing Zod’s body.
A reliable right-hand person
While Superman and Zod did have a huge battle in the Metropolis and Gotham City that even led to the destruction of the Wayne Towers right before the eyes of Bruce Wayne, played by Ben Affleck, the trailer did not show Zod during the epic fight. Instead, he was just shown all dead in a body bag, and just being looked into by Lex Luthor and Mercy Graves.
As a movie based on DC Comics, “Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice” actually offered plenty of references to past comic book stories on most of the characters of the film, not just Superman and Batman, but the rest including villains Luthor and Graves.
Mercy Graves first appeared on the TV series titled “Superman: The Animated Series” back in 1996 before her character moved to the comics. She is often portrayed as Lex Luthor’s assistant and bodyguard.
In the upcoming movie, she seems to be playing a reliable right-hand person of the cunning and evil genius that is Lex Luthor.
Lex Luthor was also seen talking to Holly Hunter, who plays a US Senator in the movie, and likely convinced her as well to make the US government officially condemn Superman for the destruction he caused as a result of his epic battle with Zod.
Despite Superman’s attempts to make up for it with superhero works like rescuing flood victims from rooftops, among other heroic stuff, it seems that the government has made up its mind that he is an enemy. It was further confounded when Batman comes out of retirement and decides to fight the Man of Steel.
Battle of the suits
Meanwhile, Comic Book trivialized the upcoming DC Comics movie by stating that it is also a battle of the suits between Clark Kent and Bruce Wayne, the respective alter egos of Superman and Batman.
Gotham City and its people know who Bruce Wayne is while only a few people outside of the Daily Planet actually know who Clark Kent is, being the obscure reporter that he is for the daily. Bruce Wayne is the billionaire businessman behind Wayne Enterprises.
Also in the latest trailer of “Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice,” Perry White, played by veteran actor Lawrence Fishburne, is shown giving a piece of his mind to Clark Kent for apparently writing something against Batman on the Daily Planet. Fishburne was quoted as saying that Clark Kent was going up against Batman and Wayne Enterprises or something to that effect.
If it comes down to a real battle of the suits between the two characters, it is likely that Bruce Wayne will get the victory hands down over Clark Kent because he is filthy rich and he really knows how to dress ever since he was little. He even has a butler in Alfred to help him dress well.
The trailer also showed Batman going up against a ton of Superman Guards soldiers, which may also be under the command, not of the Man of Steel, but of Lex Luthor.
The epic titular battle between the Man of Steel and the Caped Crusader is actually the highlight of the movie and fans will troop to the movie houses to see it when the film hit worldwide theaters on March 25, 2016.
