The anticipation for the upcoming superhero film “Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice” is undeniable. With less than three months to go before the film hits theaters, director Zack Snyder did the honors of releasing a new teaser.
In the latest TV spot, Bruce Wayne’s Batmobile gets crashed and goes up in flames after he attempts to ram Superman, played by Henry Cavill, with it.
Clark Kent’s alter-ego and Batman, played by Ben Affleck, comes face to face once again. There was no fight that ensued, but the two heroes standing opposite each other was enough for the viewers to feel the tension between them.
The 30-second clip shows the two superheroes looking at each other with disgust after the Caped Crusader gets out of the flaming Batmobile.
It ends with Batman asking the Man of Steel if he still bleeds. Though he doesn’t give Batman an answer, he does give him a scary look before he flees the scene.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the latest snippet aired Sunday night during the NFL wild card game featuring the Kansas City Chiefs against the Houston Astros. Before that, Snyder also tweeted a short preview of the film.
Fans have been quick to point out that parts of the new video have been revealed before during the first full-length teaser, but it is the first time that the scenes have been pieced together and contextualized.
Warner Bros also released a 30-second TV spot almost a month ago. The teaser included the leads sans their heroic disguise and Jesse Eisenberg’s Lex Luthor.
In the TV spot, Bruce Wayne brushes off Clark Kent, who is on duty as a Daily Planet news reporter, when he was asked about a certain vigilante in Gotham who considers himself above the law. In probably the most hostile way, Bruce retorts that Clark shouldn’t believe everything he hears.
Then comes Lex who was definitely the icebreaker to the growing tension between the two men. He also provides a slight comic relief as he happily introduces Bruce and Clark with each other.
Having been announced two years before its premiere date, the latest teaser for the film has made fans all the more excited to see the film when it comes out on theaters on March 25.
Snyder reveals that the while the film focuses on the rivalry between the two superheroes, he told fans not to expect that there will be an outright victor.
According to Games Radar, the film director confirms that Batman and Superman will eventually put their differences aside in order to defeat Lex Luthor and Doomsday.
Starring Affleck, Cavill, and Eisenberg, “Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice” also stars Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Jeremy Irons as Wayne’s loyal butler Alfred, and Ezra Miller as The Flash.
Amy Adams, Diane Lane, and Lawrence Fishburne reprise their roles from “Man of Steel” as Lois Lane, Martha Kent, and Perry White, respectively.
Adding more excitement, The CW will air a 30-minute special titled “DC Films Presents: Dawn of the Justice League on The CW” on January 19, right after the midseason premiere of “The Flash.”
Director and self-confessed comic book fan Kevin Smith will be hosting the special and will take fans behind the scenes of the much-awaited film.
Also, the first trailer for “Wonder Woman” is set to air by the end of the special. Not only that, another trailer for “Suicide Squad” is set to come out during the special.
As a treat to DC fans, the network also scheduled a 30-minute promotional feature on their upcoming TV series DC’s “Legends of Tomorrow” titled “Legends of Tomorrow: Their Time is Now” before premiering on January 21.
“Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice” will set the stage for the rest of the DC Expanded Universe as it will introduce most, if not all, of the heroes in the Justice League roster.
Subsequently, “Suicide Squad” slated to be released in August is also a film that fans are looking forward to seeing. The film stars Jared Leto as The Joker, Will Smith as Deadshot, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn among others.
