Over the past few weeks, most of the promo materials regarding the upcoming DC superhero movie “Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice” have been Batman-centric. It is Ben Affleck’s Bruce Wayne and his Caped Crusader alter-ego that have been in the front and center of the movie’s marketing campaign.
While Batman has tons of movies in the past, the last of which is the very memorable The Dark Knight trilogy by Christopher Nolan with Christian Bale as the Caped Crusader, “Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice” actually marks the first time that The Dark Knight is introduced into the DC Extended Universe (DCEU).
Superman has already been phased into the DCEU with the showing of “Man of Steel” in 2013 and it is only now that Batman is getting the treatment.
In fact, the final trailer of “Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice” released last week gave a dose of Ben Affleck’s Bruce Wayne and his sassy butler Alfred, played by Jeremy Irons.
Despite the release of the final trailer for the movie, it still does not mean that the promo cannons are slowing down because the movie’s official Twitter account have revealed recently that it can always get a little darker for Ben Affleck’s Batman.
In fact, reports now have it that the Bruce Wayne that viewers would see in “Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice” could be the most complex that have been seen on screen yet. Ben Affleck’s take on the alter-ego of The Dark Knight is someone who is dangerously close to slipping too far into the violence of the Batman persona, details Moviepilot.
That was, in fact, the reason why Alfred was quoted in the movie’s first trailer released late last year that the fever, the rage, and the feeling of powerlessness are what turns good men cruel.
Apparently, Ben Affleck’s Bruce Wayne will be a more subtly damaged and complex one because he is getting slow in his old age and frustrated by the loss of Robin, who reportedly died in the hands of The Joker, just like in the comics.
Movie’s two companion books
Meanwhile, two new companion books for “Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice” have just been released and they featured a ton of new images of both Batman and Superman, as well as Lois Lane, Alfred, Martha Wayne, Thomas Waynes, and several other cast members, reports ComicBookMovie.com.
The two new companion books are titled “Guide to the Caped Crusader” and “Guide to the Man of Steel” and they are both movie flip books.
It offered a ton of brand new images and other details from the film, some of them have yet to officially surface.
The Batman book gives a much more expanded look at the world of Ben Affleck’s Bruce Wayne with new photos of his Batcave, Batmobile, Bat arsenal that consists of non-lethal bullets, and his loyal and old friend Alfred Pennyworth. It also showed Thomas and Martha Wayne, played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Lauren Cohan, respectively.
The Superman book, on the other hand, delves deeper into the world of Henry Cavill’s Clark Kent as well as new images of Lois Lane, played by Amy Adams, Perry White, played by Laurence Fishburne, and Lex Luthor, played by Jesse Eisenberg.
Merchandising comes into play
As part of the promotions for the movie, merchandising has also started coming into play. There have just been too many merchandise items about “Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice,” but none is drawing more attention than the Barbie doll treatment of the superhero characters in the movie.
It’s not difficult to imagine a Wonder Woman Barbie doll, but it would be interesting how toymaker Mattel would do it with the other superhero characters of the upcoming Warner Bros movie based on DC Comics, “Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice.”
Just imagine Superman, Batman, the Flash, Aquaman, and Cyborg getting a Barbie doll treatment and one would certainly run into a lot of funny things on their minds.
As part of the promotions for the upcoming superhero movie due to hit worldwide theaters on March 25, Warner Bros and Mattel have forged a collaboration of sort.
