Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice Lex Luthor’s Motivations Would be Clearer if Not for Bad Editing, Cites Jesse Eisenberg

“Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” has been drawing criticisms ever since it premiered last month even spawning a sad meme of Ben Affleck.

The latest one to criticize the film is none other than Jesse Eisenberg himself, who plays Lex Luthor in the film.

The actor’s performance was fairly controversial to the comic books. In the original source material, Lex Luthor was a manipulative billionaire while the character that Jesse gave fans is a nerdy and spazzed out evil antagonist.

Some have praised his different and fresh take on the role which he promised earlier on.

Fans pointed out Eisenberg’s ability to gather different emotions from his previous movie characters and roll them into the complex attributes of Lex Luthor.

While promoting his upcoming film “Now You See Me 2,” Eisenberg explains that what many saw as drawbacks with the way he portrayed Lex would have been explained better if not for some cuts made on the film.

Speaking to MTV, the 32-year-old actor admits that he has been asked about the lukewarm reception the film has been receiving.

Fans state that Luthor’s actions in the film felt so rushed, his decisions often seemed illogical, and his information regarding the real identities of Ben Affleck’s Batman and Henry Cavill’s Superman arrived as though out of nowhere.

Fans also wondered how Lex was able to know how to weaponized Kryptonite and use it against Superman.

Others have noted that Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman had very little exposure but was given a solid plotline that viewers were able to grasp. Her story was able to give away a good window for viewers to watch her solo movie slated for June next year.

The “Zombieland” actor says that the logic behind Luthor’s character and what pushed him to create Doomsday or if he’s really a puppet of the unseen villain Darkseid were actually part of the longer cut of the film that apparently had to be trimmed down to feature length.

When asked about how the real motivations of Lex Luthor fitted into the narrative of the DC movie, the “Now You See Me 2” actor said that a bit of backstory was left out and it would have made his villain character more sense from the audience perspective.

Eisenberg adds that there were certain editorial choices that he was not aware of when the film was being put together as a whole.

“The Social Network” actor says that Lex Luthor’s mythology was a complicated one but he was able to wrap his head around the character while filming and he’s sure that had it not been for bad editing, fans would have understood more of his character’s motivations.

Interestingly, Eisenberg adds that he hasn’t seen the film yet as he doesn’t really like watching his own films.

While it is true that Eisenberg was present in various press junkets and red carpet premieres, he tells MTV that he hasn’t seen the film in its entirety.

He says that he doesn’t watch movies he’s been in and he reads nothing about it. The actor shares that Woody Harrelson dragged him to watch their film “Zombieland” and he liked it but he also felt comfortable while doing so.

Despite his comments about lackluster editing, Jesse says that he would love to rejoin the cast and crew to play Lex Luthor again because being part of the group is such an honor.

This clears up rumors that Luthor’s appearance in the upcoming film “Justice League Part 1” still remains uncertain.

Fans of the comics will know that Lex plays a large role in the Justice League series and of course, his fate in “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” seemed like there will be more for Mr. Luthor.
