When he struck the spear to Doomsday, Superman did not even ingest any kryptonite. He was just weakened by it because he held onto it until Doomsday disintegrated. So he is far from being dead for sure. The Justice League would never be complete without Superman. It is just the movie doing a Jon Snow cliffhanger from Season 5 of the very popular “Game of Thrones” TV series on HBO.
Director Zack Snyder revealed in a recent interview that he intentionally sidelined Superman at the end of the film because he wanted Batman to build nascent superhero team, the Justice League, in the movie’s sequel.
He explained that he wanted Bruce Wayne to build the Justice League because, with Superman around, it will be a different conversation when the Justice League is created. He added that Bruce Wayne having to go out and find the seven samurais by himself is a lot more interesting of a movie premise.
Snyder also confirmed that Superman would not be revived by mere sunlight this time. He said that there is more to be done and the Man of Steel will have to take the mythological journey. The director also confirmed that there will be a resurrection of Superman and the more interesting thing to watch out for is what he is when he comes back.
