It’s not rare that developers would include sneaky little easter eggs in their games, sometimes even hinting at the release of another title, but it occasionally takes fans some time to discover these, especially when they’re well-hidden. It seems like gamers have gotten used to the idea of having all that information available to them pretty much on day 1, thanks to the way the Internet allows us to share our findings with everyone.
It looks like a secret had gone undiscovered for some time in “Batman: Arkham Knight” though, as gamers have just stumbled across the little teaser and have been discussing it very actively on messaging boards related to the title. It’s not that surprising that nobody has managed to discover the easter egg until now though, as it requires running the game on a particular date.
More specifically, if the game is played on October 31 – or Halloween – players will get to see a few extra scenes that are normally not in the main storyline. There is one extra special requirement however, and that’s to complete the “Most Wanted” mission titled “Creature of the Night”, and they must have captured Man-Bat.
After that, players can set their PC/console date to October 31 to force the easter egg to appear – or of course, they could just wait for the actual date to roll around, although the first option definitely seems slightly easier and more reasonable.
Upon launching the game, players should start roaming around Gotham City with the grappling hook, and eventually they’ll be treated to a Man-Bat solo of a Bjork song, after which Man-Bat runs away. Going to the GCPD lock-up will reveal how he managed to escape and the story behind the easter egg.
It seems like Man-Bat could have been held in captivity a bit more efficiently, instead of relying on the cheap material that his cage was apparently made out of. Still, this particular development was just for fun and of course we imagine it has no bearing on the actual canon of the game, nor the franchise’s storyline as a whole.
After the discovery of this easter egg, some players went crazy trying to find out even more hidden goodies throughout the game, but of course that’s been to no avail for the most part so far. It’s rare enough that we hear about such a discovery a few weeks after the initial release of the game, and it’s probably even rarer that it happens more than once in such a period of time.
But in this case, we wouldn’t be surprised to see even more similar revelations in the near future. The developer is known for loving to hide small details in their games, and their players also love to look for those “presents” too, which has created a nice cycle between the studio and the community.
Meanwhile, the PC version of the game remains in a poor state as the major update is still some time away. The developers have been doing their best to communicate with their users regarding the situation, but in the end, there’s not much that they can do in terms of damage control at this point, as the game already got a pretty bad backlash upon coming out.
It just goes to show that making a poorly polished release on the PC market is hardly ever a good idea, and it can have long-lasting effects on a title. Players might not forget what happened soon, and this will put a dent in their trust in the company’s future releases.
