“Awkward” is soon coming back for its fifth season, which, according to what was commonly known until now, should be its last. It will conclude the high school story and that will also make the setting unsuitable for further episodes – but as it turns out, this doesn’t necessarily have to mean that the show itself is going to end. In fact, we’re now hearing reports that claim the opposite, and fans of “Awkward” may still get to see their favorite characters for some time after season 5, although the format of their stories might change a little.
All of the characters are going to see some growth and we’ll see their personalities expanding in different directions, and they will all have to take a moment to figure out what they want to do with their lives, and how they want to take their relationships with each other further. We’re going to see various developments on all fronts when it comes to those relationships, but some might be given more focus than others, according to reports.
In particular, we may see more of Jenna and Matty and the connection between them, and the producers of the show have been hinting at other interesting developments as well. In addition, some of those relationships might turn into something a lot more serious and complex, as the producers will try to push the show into a new era, aimed at an audience that wants a slightly more in-depth story.
What implications could this have for our characters? The producers only said that the finale of season 5 will open many different doors for how they can take the show further, so we’re curious what route they might choose to take. In any case, they sounded somewhat confident that the show isn’t going to come to an end once season 5 is over, so fans should prepare themselves for an even more interesting story at some point in the future.
A major event will be given a lot of focus in the new season, and that’s of course the prom – the culmination of everyone’s high school experience, and something which often gets portrayed in a particularly glamorous and exciting way in films and TV shows. There will actually be two whole episodes dedicated to this, and we’re going to see the characters going through some interesting events regarding their prom appearances.
Are we going to see the characters experiencing college life and the new challenges it presents? While there have been some rumors in that direction, for the most part it doesn’t seem like this is planned to be shown in any detail right now – at least not for this season. We might catch some glimpses of that here and there, and there may be a spin-off based on this premise, but for now, “Awkward” itself is wrapping up the school experience of the characters and the show is focusing entirely on that. And of course, despite the fact that fans are disappointed that their favorite show is coming to an end – or at least an “era” of it is – they also seem glad that the producers are paying enough attention to giving them a good conclusion.
There is very little time left before the show returns to the screen, and discussions on messaging boards and social media have been getting more and more active. It’s pretty clear from just one brief look that many people are very excited to see “Awkward” coming back.
