The production of “Avatar 2” is apparently coming along nicely, as James Cameron was finally able to confirm the official release date for the film, announcing that it’s scheduled for Christmas 2017. With two more years to go in the film’s production, a lot can happen that could easily make it an even more important release than its predecessor. And with so much attention focused on “Avatar 2” right now, Cameron has a lot of expectations to live up to.
After all, “Avatar” was a true precedent in terms of success in the film industry, and doing better on the sequel will be a real challenge for everyone involved. At the same time, we’re confident that the people attached to this production have more than enough experience to deliver the best film that their fans could get, and it’s only a matter of time before we start seeing exciting previews that give us a glimpse into what we can expect.
Why the long wait though? It’s been quite a while since the original came out, and most film sequels don’t take that long, even for more major productions. According to Cameron, the problem lies in the technology behind the film, or at least that was the statement he gave last time. The director seems to have some especially demanding ideas in mind with regards to the technology that has to be used in the film, and he was waiting for the right developments to become reality before he could proceed.
On the other hand, there are also rumors that the script of the film has been causing some problems, and there are issues related to stuffing that much information within the allotted timeframe. It’s already known that Cameron wants to create multiple sequels to the original and he apparently has quite the long plot line in mind, so we can imagine that he also has plenty of ideas on the table for the film, and it could be a bit hard to figure out how to fit them all into the number of sequels that are planned at the moment.
What will the plot of the new film be about? Rumors about that just don’t stop, and the most prominent ones paint a bit of a dark picture, claiming that “Avatar 2” might take the story in a grim direction and paint everything in a new light. A prison theme has been mentioned more than once, but we don’t know the exact details of that. All we know for sure is that this is an important opportunity for Cameron to truly push this franchise forward and make the effects of the first film even more memorable, and knowing the ambitious nature of the director, we don’t doubt that he has the full intention to do just that. Because of this, we also aren’t surprised that the film is going to take so long to complete, and we are actually happy that Cameron is taking his time.
Other directors wouldn’t have approached the situation in the same way – with a production as popular as “Avatar”, we can easily see how others would have immediately tried to exploit it and profit as much as possible before interest in the production dries out. With “Avatar” though, Cameron obviously realizes the importance of the work he has on his hands, and he doesn’t want to let his fans down. And producing something worthy of being called “Avatar 2” is obviously going to take some time.
