Avatar 2 Director James Cameron Confirms Return of Sigourney Weaver and Stephen Lang in Tetralogy!

Critically-acclaimed director, writer, and producer James Cameron recently disclosed that actors Sigourney Weaver and Stephen Lang will be back not just on “Avatar 2” but the two other films of the “Avatar” tetralogy.

Cameron confirmed the speculations that Weaver and Lang will be part of the sequel to the most successful film in history even though their respective character in the first film already died.

He said during a recent interview that nobody dies in a science-fiction film, notes The Bitbag.

Sigourney Weaver’s character in “Avatar” was Dr. Grace. She gets shot and dies before the Na’vi could complete the transfer of her consciousness to her avatar body.

Stephen Lang, on the other hand, played Colonel Miles Quaritch. He was struck and killed by huge arrows piercing his chest in the first film.

In justifying the return of the two actors, Cameron said that he and Sigourney have a long creative history, dating back to 1985 when they made “Aliens,” the second movie of the classic film franchise.

As for Stephen Lang, Cameron said that the actor was so memorable in the first film. He said that he does want to reveal exactly how they intend to bring him back but “Avatar” is a science-fiction story so it is very much possible.

He added that Stephen’s character will evolve into really unexpected places across the arc of the next three “Avatar” films. Cameron also said that Lang is such a gifted actor and is also a good friend of his.

Neytiri’s children

Since “Avatar 2” has been confirmed for a release date of December 25, 2017, there have been plenty of speculations going around regarding the possible plotline for the movie.

One of the more interesting rumors is that Neytiri, played by Zoe Saldana, would have children in the upcoming sequel.

It also follows that the father of Neytiri’s children is Jake Sully, played by Sam Worthington. That’s a good plotline because Jake and Neytiri would work not just on protecting their tribe but also their family, details the Christian Post.

There were rumors also that Pandora will have a prison theme. It was actually Goksan Ozman, the movie’s artist, who dropped such hint but an official word has yet to come from James Cameron.

The director said in a previous interview that there will be a conflict between dominating nature and integrating with nature. He said that the primary conflict between human view kind of dominating nature and the Na’vi view of being integrated into nature is the same. However it manifests itself in different ways, Cameron was quoted as saying.

A comic book series on ‘Avatar’

“Avatar 2” may still be long ways to go but during the recently-concluded New York ComicCon held in October, James Cameron announced a new comic book series on the Avatar universe.

Without Cameron saying it directly during the event, the upcoming comic book series, which will be set on the planet of Pandora, will certainly give the upcoming movie an early promotional boost.

Cameron said that he was partnering with Dark Horse Comics to bring the world of Avatar to the comic books. He added that it will shed more light on the mythology and history of the beloved film franchise.

The “Avatar 2” director added that for the past 27 years, Dark Horse has been associated with some of his films including “The Terminator,” “Aliens,” and the “The Abyss.”

He said that he is excited that between now and the release of “Avatar 2,” Dark Horse will be bringing new adventure from Pandora that covers the time before, during, and after the events of the original film.
