“Avatar 2” is still surrounded by a lot of hype, despite the strong lack of any actual information about the film. We’ve heard various rumors about it through the time, as well as alleged reports from the set, but James Cameron likes to keep his lips tightly shut and he hasn’t been eager to share his progress reports with us. There is certainly a lot that can be told about Miles, both in terms of his background as well as by developing new stories for him, so it can be very interesting to see a new movie focusing on him primarily.
With the whole prison theme that the film is supposedly going to feature, and all the new special effects, this could be a great way to continue one of the most iconic films in the history of cinema. Many fans are actually hoping that Cameron will do as much as possible to break away from the frame of the initial film, judging by discussions around forums, so the director should definitely take a few serious risks.
Still, no matter what Cameron decides to do with “Avatar 2”, it’ll be a long time before we get to see the new film. Reports about the potential release date keep coming out on a regular basis and they are always contradicting each other, and needless to say, Cameron himself doesn’t have much to say on the topic right now.
The only thing the director was able to confirm is that he sees “Star Wars: Episode 8” as a direct competitor to “Avatar 2”, so he’s planning to postpone the release of his own film until the next chapter in the space saga is released. This means that there is at least a year left to go in the production in the film, possibly even more, so fans should arm themselves with a lot of patience. On the other hand, those who enjoy discussing their ideas for the new film on forums will have plenty of time for that.
Considering that James Cameron is planning three whole sequels right now, there is plenty of room for such discussions, although it’s pretty difficult to predict what the director could be planning so far into the future.
