There is a bit of clarity now as to when the second season of the Japanese anime “Attack on Titan” would return to the small screen. Over the past couple of weeks, there were reports saying that the anime could premiere on TV in April of next year.
It is not clear though if the TV series would deviate from the manga or stick with it, but it is likely to be the second case.
In terms of plot details, the rumors are rife the Season 2 of “Attack on Titan” shall focus on the back story of Eren Yeager and his family. Eren is a member of the Survey Corps who are out to defend the Wall from the Titans.
According to the same set of rumors, Eren shall be able to discover a couple of key important things about his family’s history in the basement. Most of all, he will reportedly find out that one of the Titans that he will be going up against with in Season 2 is actually his half-brother, details Chatt Sports Net.
Eren will learn that he is part of an Elodian race, who is responsible for obtaining the powers of a Titan, based on history.
Season 2 looks promising
Madhouse Entertainment, the publisher of the manga source material of “Attack on Titan” as written by Hajime Isayama, detailed that the first season of the anime covered all 36 chapters of the first four arcs of the manga, which translated into a total of 25 episodes.
If “Attack on Titan” Season 2 will follow the same arcs, only the next two story arcs will be covered including “Clash of the Titans” and “The Uprising,” reports the Christian Today.
The former has 16 chapters while the latter has 20 chapters. Depending on the pacing of the story in the manga, these two story arcs will likely make up “Attack on Titan” Season 2.
“Clash of the Titans” and “The Uprising” are actually eventful story arcs, and they will deliver both story development and larger-than-life action sequences in the anime.
The former will see the 104th Training Corps deal with Titans that breached the Wall seemingly out of nowhere.
The latter chronicles the kidnapping of Eren and Historia, which was an indirect cause of a character’s death. It also leads to more information about the Reiss family.
Saving the more revealing parts for Season 3?
If “Attack on Titan” Season 2 will have 25 episodes once more, it looks like the anime will save the much more revealing parts of the manga for another season.
Those who have been following the manga know that Isayama dropped some major revelations about humanity’s existence, what lies beyond the walls, the source of the Titan’s power, and who held it first.
These new chapters are, of course, part of the ongoing “Return to Shiganshina” story arc, which clears things up about the mystery of the Titans.
Eren’s father, Dr. Grisha Yaeger, is the one person who knows the answers to the mysteries surrounding the Titan’s emergence and existence. Accordingly, the secrets of the past were just behind the basement door of the house of Eren’s father and it is possible that the Season 2 might explore that plotline.
There are also reports going around that the upcoming second season will also feature a love triangle happening involving Levi, Mikasa, and Armin.
But there are also rumors saying that Mikasa will be involved in a romantic situation in “Attack on Titan” Season 2 but there is still no confirmation as to whom she might hook up with.
