‘Attack on Titan’ Season 2 Needs Two More Story Arcs from the Manga Before it Gets a Release Date!

The second season of the Japanese anime TV series “Attack on Titan” has been expected as early as 2014, immediately after its Season 1 ended.

Back then, the announcement was that Season 2 of “Attack on Titan” could possibly come out in the second half of 2016. It is already a few months to go before the second half of the year sets in but there is still no official confirmation or word from the creator or the producers regarding the exact release date of the return of the show on the small screen.

The best indication of the release of an upcoming TV series is an official trailer or teaser some three to six months before its release date but unfortunately, up until this time, there is none yet for “Attack on Titan.” Most of the reports about the TV series are from fan speculations and rumors swirling wildly on the internet.

Reports have it that there is a standing commitment between mangaka Hajime Isayama and anime director Tetsuro Araki and that they have both agreed that in order for the show to continue, the original “Shingeki no Kyojin” manga will have to be at least four storylines ahead of the climax of Season 1.

Given such condition, the “Attack on Titan” development team will have to wait a bit longer to continue with the anime story since “Shingeki no Kyojin” manga is slowly and steadily progressing.

As it is, the manga source material is ahead by only two story arcs from the Season 1 finale of “Attack on Titan,” reports iDigital Times.

So while waiting for the TV series to premiere either this year or next year, fans and viewers can quench their thirst for “Attack on Titan” by playing the video game, which was also based on the manga and the show.

The battle with Titans heating up

If the anime remains faithful to the source material, “Attack on Titan” Season 2 will see Eren Yaeger and the remaining members of their squad continue their battle with the Titans. It is also speculated that Season 2 of the anime TV series shall be more action-packed than the pilot season.

According to some reports, the second season of “Attack on Titan” will focus on some of the battles in the manga including the abduction of Eren as well as Commander Erwin Smith losing an arm.

The storyline for “Attack on Titan” Season 2 will follow the story of the 104th Trainees Squad fight against the Titans that have penetrated the wall. It will also follow the story of overthrowing the king because of corruption.

“The Uprising” will be led by Commander Erwin Smith and will also have a “Clash of Titans” story arc.

Season 2 of “Attack on Titan” shall also unveil the source of Eren’s capabilities to turn into a Titan which has something to do with her father who may still be alive. Reports also have it that Season 2 will also unveil more humans transforming to Titans including Reinier Braun and Bertolt Hoover.

Ymir to be thrust into the limelight

There were previous reports that Season 2 of “Attack on Titan” will also delve on the anime’s massive cast of characters, particularly the obscure Ymir. The disclosure actually came no less from Isayama during a recent interview.

Ymir actually holds the key to the ultimate conclusion of the whole series and that the overall plot of “Attack on Titan” as well as the history of the giant Titan will rely heavily on his story progression on the anime, notes the Christian Today.

The name of Ymir is based on Norse mythology. He was the first being to come into existence and is both the father of the Nordic giants and later, the gods such as Odin.
