‘Attack on Titan’ Season 2 Gets a Similar Premier Date in North America as in Japan Because of Funimation

The second season of the popular Japanese anime “Attack on Titan” has been confirmed to air in April next year in Japan.

However, recent developments have also made it possible to air the TV series on a similar date in North America as in the anime’s home country.

Reports have it that Funimation has officially acquired the rights to the Japanese anime to bring it to the US and Canada next year, reports iDigital Times.

The news no longer came as a surprise to many fans of the anime, since it was also Funimation which simulcast the original 25-episode “Attack on Titan” Season 1 and also released its subsequent home video throughout North America.

An instant hit

Gen Fukunaga, the CEO and founder of Funimation, said that “Attack on Titan” became an instant hit since it first streamed in 2013 and they are thrilled to bring fans the long-awaited Season 2 of the series to North American small screens.

When it finally airs in April of next year, it would have taken “Attack on Titan” four years to air the second season from the time that the Season 1 finale was aired.

Fukunaga cited that “Attack on Titan” is truly a worldwide phenomenon that has continued to grow at a non-stop pace so fans of the anime can certainly look forward to a certainly very exciting second season.

Mike DuBoise, EVP and COO of Funimation, added that “Attack on Titan” is one of those rare titles that have reached true cult status with anime fans all over the world.

He added that it has been over three years since the last episode of “Attack on Titan” Season 1 was aired on TV but the passion from its fans has not waned one bit.

The emergence of the Titans

While most of the fans of “Attack on Titan” are concerned on when exactly in April 2017 would Season 2 finally airs, others are more focused on the possible plotline of the TV series.

The rumors and reports have been fairly consistent in saying that the second season of “Attack on Titan” shall focus on the back story of the Titans and how they emerged in the world.

According to some reports, the upcoming second season of “Attack on Titan” shall feature more clues about the origins of the Titans. In fact, there was even a recent teaser showing a priest that belongs to a religious organization who worships the walls that were used to protect the city from the Titans.

Having said that, the reports and rumors are also consistent in saying that Season 2 of “Attack on Titan” is already under production and it looks like it is within its target of an April 2017 release date, notes News Everyday.

In addition to the backstory of the Titans, the focus of the upcoming Season 2 of the anime series would be Eren and his journey to becoming a Titan as well.

Eren shall reportedly be seen on a path of self-discovery. It is speculated that Commander Erwin gives up his arm to save Eren. Now he owes his life to the Commander. He will be seen fighting off Titans to honor the sacrifice made for him.

He shall also find out information about Zeke and discovers for himself that Zeke is his brother.

All of these life-changing incidents in Eren’s life will be shown in the first episode where he goes to the basement and finds Doctor Grisha Yeager’s secret. He also figures that Zeke was manipulated to fight against the Titans.

Eren will learn that he is part of an Elodian race, which is responsible for obtaining the powers of a Titan in history.

Madhouse Entertainment, the publisher of the manga source material of “Attack on Titan” as written by Hajime Isayama, detailed that the first season of the anime covered all 36 chapters of the first four arcs of the manga, which translated into a total of 25 episodes.

If “Attack on Titan” Season 2 will follow the same arcs, only the next two story arcs will be covered including “Clash of the Titans” and “The Uprising.”
