Asus has started rolling out its flagship smartphone, the ZenFone 2, in March beginning at its home market in Taiwan and it only started hitting the US retail stores last month at a very affordable price of $199.
The Taiwanese smartphone maker has been very dynamic in introducing its flagship smartphone to different retail markets in the world. Instead of unilaterally launching the mid-range handsets all across the entire retail markets, Asus has been very selective and innovative, launching different variants of the ZenFone 2 in different countries.
Unlike in its release in its home market where it only unveiled two variants, Asus released four models of the ZenFone 2 in the Indian market. It also launched four models in the Malaysian market in May.
Something new
But it seems that Asus is not done yet with its innovation. The Taiwanese company has just launched this week two more variants of the ZenFone 2 in its home market via the Computex 2015 event, reports Android Central.
Asus has launched 5-inch and 6-inch variants of its ZenFone 2 that features Intel chips and laser autofocus.
The new 5-inch ZenFone 2 is different from the previously rolled out 5-inch handset that was launched in Taiwan in March. While both have the same size, the current version has a smaller display with a 1280 x 720-pixel screen resolution. It also comes in a range of glossy, matte, and metal effect color options unlike its identical sibling.
The new variant no longer has the Intel branding on it and it also packs a laser-assisted autofocus with the new ZenFone Selfie. The smartphone is believed to be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor, the company’s entry-level 64-bit chip, but Asus did not confirm it.
In terms of performance, the new 5-inch handset is running pretty even with its identical sibling. It’s also smooth and responsive plus the fact that the Asus ZenUI comes with a lot of additional features.
Lofty target
It may be a lofty target for the Taiwanese tech company for its ZenFone 2 but Asus is eyeing to ship 25 million of its latest smartphone before the end of the year.
The company is left with a little over six months to work on its target and it is relying heavily on the successful performance of its ZenFone launched last year, which generated a good following particularly in European markets.
It is obvious that Asus is not able to release its device to its target markets soon enough to be able to meet its own target but the Taiwanese tech company is confident that time is still on its side since it still has more than six months to work on.
