There is no doubt that the epidemic of being “too skinny” has been around since the first day a model walked down the runway. Models have been getting smacked with criticism about being “too thin” and not exactly any sort of good “role model” for younger children. Now you see in the news how this person was made thinner, more muscle tone was added or even the color of their skin was changed in the final print.
One model is not letting the issue go, but she is on the other side of the spectrum as she is considered a “plus size” model. Ashley Graham recently slammed on Hollywood’s door for trying to use Jennifer Lawrence as the poster girl for “curvy”. Because young girls everywhere need to have some sort of role model, Ashley Graham sees that calling Lawrence curvy is just not right with her being a size 6, reportedly.
Ashley Graham is a reported size 14 and that is what she, and others around the world, might consider “curvy”. Eating disorders come in all sizes and it is because of this that Ashley Graham feels she needs to make sense of what Hollywood is trying to do. Ashley Graham would love for younger girls to see woman on television and the media with a healthy figure compared to what the masses might consider “average”.
According to one online source, the average woman in the United States is a size 14. Ashley Graham said that she thinks that “you can be healthy at any size and my goal is to help and educate women on that.” What the younger generation needs is more education and better role models when it comes to dealing with your size. Lawrence has been in the center of plenty of discussions about her weight and revealed that one time she was told to lose weight or she would lose a job offer.
She was told she was fat and she does not talk about diets anymore, she is a superstar and would be a good role model for younger girls, but she is not curvy. Ashley Graham is having a very successful modeling career and has been for some time. She was first noticed when she was 12 and that is when she started working for the Wilhelmina Models.
