The storyline of Diggle, played by David Ramsay, in the fifth season of the American superhero drama TV series “Arrow” on The CW did not start until the end of the second episode that aired on October 5.
Diggle’s storyline got off to an unexpected and shocking start after he was revealed to have been framed by his commanding officer for the murder of several members of his military unit, details Screen Rant.
Oliver Queen a.k.a. the Green Arrow, played by Stephen Amell, and Diggle’s wife Lyla, played by Audrey Marie Anderson, took the cudgels on a secret mission to help out Diggle on the fourth episode of “Arrow” Season 5 that aired on October 19.
Felicity, played by Emily Bett Rickards, discovered the plan of Oliver and Lyla and she was not in favor of it so she opted to stay behind. So it was left to her to hold the fort while the Green Arrow is out.
Things got a little too complicated during the episode, entitled “Penance” when big bad Tobias Church, played by Chad L. Coleman, launches a deadly assault on Star City. Felicity was left with a choice to decide whether to send Team Arrow’s young recruits to the frontline without the Green Arrow or wait until Oliver and Lyla return from their mission for Diggle.
Focus on the relationship of Oliver and Diggle
“Arrow” executive producer Marc Guggenheim recently teased that Season 5 of the TV series shall have a lot of focus on the relationship of Diggle and Oliver Queen, in light of their new situation.
He revealed that the story of Diggle being framed is part of a long tail storyline involving the character that will run through the middle of Season 5.
Guggenheim also explained that the next few episodes will be reminiscent of the times during the first two seasons of “Arrow” when Team Arrow was composed only of Oliver and Diggle.
The showrunner said that it is not about changing the dynamic between the two characters but more of a question about what lengths will Oliver go to for his best friend.
It can be recalled that the relationship of the two have been subjected to a large amount of stress throughout both Seasons 3 and 4 and it would be interesting how it would all play out in Season 5.
A Marvel actor on a DC TV series
No, there will be no crossover between Marvel and DC happening on a TV series, much more in a film, anytime soon, if not, ever.
For some reason, Wil Traval, who is a star in the Marvel TV series “Jessica Jones” on Netflix, will guest star on the fifth episode of “Arrow” Season 5. He will be taking on the character known as the Human Target, reports the Den of Geek.
Based on the synopsis of episode 5 to air on October 26, Oliver will seek the help of Christopher Chance, the alter ego of the Human Target, to free one of his new recruits from captivity in the hands of Tobias Church.
The Christopher Chance version of the Human Target first appeared in 1972 in the pages of Action Comics. He was created by Len Wein and Carmine Infantino.
The Human Target is a bodyguard, but unlike other bodyguards, he actually assumes the identities of the people he’s in charge of in order to lure their potential assassins out of hiding. He then kicks their asses.
In an interview before the start of “Arrow” Season 5, showrunner Wendy Mericle confirmed that the fifth season of “Arrow” shall see the TV series going back to the real criminal underworld of Star City.
