Even though the fourth season of “Arrow” was a major disappointment for many fans of the show – and critics weren’t too fond of it either – the current season 5 seems to be slowly undoing that damage. While the new episodes still aren’t perfect, according to most followers of the production, at least they make it obvious that the showrunners are trying to make things right and to bring “Arrow” back to the peak of its popularity.
Many people are still seemingly bitter over the way season 4 was handled though, and this seems to be affecting their perception of the current one. This has been a major problem for the showrunners from what we can tell, as it creates a situation where they need to put even more effort into the current season to maintain the satisfaction levels of their fans sufficiently high.
Still, the episodes we’ve seen so far have explored some interesting stories for the show, and we’ve also seen reports that the producers are planning a very special surprise for their fans in the near future. A major crossover story featuring “The Flash”, “Supergirl”, and “Legends of Tomorrow” is going to arrive to the screen, and it could be the main subject of multiple episodes.
Crossovers are always a great way to freshen things up and bring some fans over from another show, and this could be just the kind of kick that “Arrow” needs in order to recover from its problematic state. We’ve just seen a teaser for the crossover, and fans seem excited from what they were shown, so it looks like the producers are on the right track.
Other than that, there have been some exciting reports for what’s to come in the rest of the season. It looks like Oliver will have to go up against a major foe, one that requires a slightly different approach to things.
More specifically, it will be his own creation, although the showrunners have been a bit tight on the details, so it’s hard to tell exactly what they are planning to do. They did claim that this story would give them an opportunity to revise some previous stories they’ve told in the earlier seasons, so that could be an interesting way to breathe some fresh life into the show.
Actually, going back to the roots could be exactly what “Arrow” needs right now. In combination with the crossover we mentioned above, this could be a good solution to the show’s issues. But while this would address at least some of the main complaints fans have towards the current season, it still won’t do anything for certain other issues that have been plaguing the show.
In particular, some fans have been critical of the overall pacing during this season, claiming that the show has become a bit too hectic for its own good. It looks like the producers were trying to respond to the falling ratings by spicing things up and turning the excitement up a notch, but this has backfired for the most part.
If they reverted to their standard storytelling and executed the ideas described above properly, this could be the perfect way to conclude season 5 and set the show up for an even better sixth season. On the other hand, if the producers fail to live up to the expectations of their fans once again, this could spell disaster for “Arrow” and could pretty much preclude it from getting another installment.
