Season 3 of the American superhero TV series “Arrow” saw the departure of Ray Palmer, played by actor Brandon Routh, as The Atom because a spinoff series has already been developed by the same producers and will air also on The CW.
In the previous seasons of “Arrow,” Barry Allen, played by actor Grant Gustin, also appeared in the series as The Flash. But the character eventually graduated from the show and went on with a spinoff TV series also on The CW network.
While “Arrow” still has a couple of DC superhero material surrounding Oliver Queen, they are no longer as familiar or as famous as say The Flash or The Atom, so much so that latest reports coming about is that the series will include two new comic character additions to perk things up for the show’s upcoming fourth season.
Unlike the darker tone of Season 3, showrunner Marc Guggenheim disclosed that Season 4 of “Arrow” would be lighter and will see the new Oliver Queen no longer under the guise of The Arrow.
Good and bad
The Warner Bros. Television and DC Entertainment panel at ComicCon 2015 in San Diego confirmed Guggenheim’s disclosure but they added new information when they said that two new comic characters will be joining “Arrow” for Season 4. The two new characters will be Mister Terrific and Anarky.
Screen Rant details that Mister Terrific will work mainly with Felicity Smoak considering his natural aptitude for technology and tech-based weaponry while Anarky will work against Team Arrow to undermine order in the newly-named Star City.
A few days after the ComicCon 2015, Warner Bros. Television has announced that actor Echo Kellum has been signed for Season 4 of “Arrow” to take on the role of Curtis Holt, the alter ego of Mister Terrific.
It has also been reported that actor Alexander Calvert from the movies “Bates Motel,” and “The Returned” has been signed to play Lonnie Machin, who is the alter ego of Anarky.
Holt is a technological savant and inventor who is going to be working at Palmer Technologies under Felicity’s supervisions. While there are two versions of Mister Terrific in the comics – one of Terry Sloane and the other as Michael Holt – but judging from the Holt surname, “Arrow” will likely take on the slant for the second comic character. Thus, it is highly likely that Mister Terrific will showcase his technological prowess and may potentially introduce his signature electronic devices and T-spheres.
Anarky, on the other hand, will come out in the second episode of Season 4 of “Arrow” as a deranged freelancing criminal who will be willing to do whatever it takes to impress a potential employer, notes IGN.
However, Anarky in the comics is different. He does not act for vengeance or redemption but only in the name of his unorthodox and skewed beliefs. He is a social activist who views himself as a hero and sees his violent actions as heroic.
Anarky’s single-mindedness and personal ideology in the comics really do not see him working for somebody or an employer so it is not clear how “Arrow” will mesh his character with a possible boss. It is likely though that Damien Darhk, played by actor Neal McDonough, as the series’ main protagonist, could be Anarky’s potential boss.
Darhk is the leader of H.I.V.E. and a former member of the League of Assassins, which is an organization that also employs immoral means to protect and save humanity. Anarky would certainly be a good fit for Darhk’s organization.
