As far as avid fans of the superhero TV series “Arrow” are concerned, the long wait is over for their favorite show on the small screen. The CW has just released the official synopsis for Season 4 of the TV series based on DC Comics. Judging by the upcoming season’s overview, it looks like Oliver Queen is likely to return despite seemingly riding into the sunset with Felicity Smoak during the series finale of Season 3.
Now that Roy Harper is out of Starling City, the synopsis hints that Thea, who just came from back from the dead thanks to the Lazarus Pit, is now ready to be onboard Team Arrow. She will be coming in as Speedy and will join Diggle and Laurel on the team. The synopsis also suggests that Malcolm Merlyn as the new Ra’s Al Ghul likely means that there will be more trips from Starling City to Nanda Parbat for the gang.
Set to premiere on October 7, the show’s fourth season will take place a little over six months after Season 3’s finale, cites Stephen Amell, who plays Oliver Queen, to Melty. This time jump according to the Canadian actor allows producers to set the new playing field for the series.
Fans of the show are one in saying that the series headed for a darker tone last season compared to the first two. Executive producer Marc Guggenheim has confirmed that they did go on a darker and heavier season last time but ended it on a clean slate, which means Season 4 would be like a rebirth for the show.
Last season, fans saw Oliver Queen doing what he does best in his green-hooded overalls, then suddenly shifted to shooting arrows as Al Sah-Him after accepting Ra’s Al Ghul’s invitation to be the heir to the demon. The season ended with Oliver coming to his senses and bidding Starling City goodbye, leaving behind his crusade to protect the city. Diggle, Laurel, who is the Black Canary, and Oliver’s sister Thea are left to safeguard Starling from imminent peril.
Roy Harper as Arsenal, played by Colton Haynes, also said farewell to Starling City as he wants to start fresh and lead a new life. Roy’s departure was a way for Haynes to exit as series regular from the show although he still teases fans that his character can always go back to Starling to check in on Thea.
Ray Palmer’s name being dropped from the series can be explained by the fact that his character, played by Brandon Routh, will also be starring in Legends Of Tomorrow soon and will also be aired on The CW.
As season premieres are, by nature, meant to give fans a glimpse of what they should expect for the series, Season 4 of The CW’s flagship show will apparently raise more questions than answers. The fact that there was no mention of a new villain to plague Starling City elicits a question of what will the show be like without a new evil face.
Malcolm Merlyn was also promoted as the League of Assassins’ leader and the new Ra’s Al Ghul after Oliver killed the former title-holder. Speculations have been going around that he is likely to become the main antagonist again just as he was during the show’s second season.
The next bad guy
Breathecast cited however, that a new villain in the form of H.I.V.E leader Damian Darhk is set to be the season’s main antagonist. The name was never given a face in Season 3 but was mentioned by Ra’s Al Ghul as he shares to Al Sah-Him that he and Darhk go a long way back with one swearing vengeance on the other. One of the show’s writers, Wendy Mericle, dropped hints on her Twitter account encouraging fans to get ready as they have big things planned for the show’s next bad guy.
When Season 3 ended, fans and loyal followers of Olicity has been quick to propose theories for the upcoming season, even suggesting that a baby will be on the way for the two. This was quickly dismissed by showrunner Marc Guggenheim. A baby drama though is not being ruled out as it is a known fact that Oliver has a kid with another woman. No word yet if that plot is being weaved into the upcoming season.

I loved season 3 especially the Maseo-Katana scenes but sad that Maseo died=( hope they throw him in the pit and revive him!
