Just when all of her fans thought they’ve seen what Ariana Grande can do, she surprises them by lending her vocals to opera singer Andrea Bocelli. Grande is indeed versatile, but her latest musical venture allows her fans to hear and see a side of her they’ve all never heard and seen before.
The “One Last Time” singer is collaborating with the Italian opera legend on the song titled “E Piu Ti Penso” from the movie “Once Upon a Time in America.”
It took a lot of guts for the “Problem” singer to try out her voice in opera. It’s an entirely different arena from pop music which is what she’s used to doing and singing alongside the 57-year-old classical tenor is no joke.
The song is in Italian and was written by Italian composers Tony Regis and Mogul. The song was first recorded in 2010 by an Italian tenor named Il Volo but Grande and Bocelli nailed their version. excellently.
Although over 30 years younger, Grande’s voice stepped up and her and Bocelli’s vocals blended together flawlessly. According to Hollywood Life, the song tells the story of two lovers separated by distance and longing for each other.
“Once Upon a Time in America” was a gangster movie released in 1984 and starred Robert De Niro and was directed by Sergio Leone.
Ariana’s vocal range and technical proficiency are often compared with that of pop superstar Mariah Carey. Mariah Carey also had her opera moment when she performed a duet with the famed opera singer, the late Pavarotti years ago. That being said, Huffington Post notes that the 22-year-old singer’s latest stint is not the case of beating out her idol.
Meanwhile, it looks like Bocelli isn’t the only music legend the former Nickelodeon star is teaming up with. Last weekend, the “Love Me Harder” singer performed together with Coldplay at the Global Citizen Festival in Central Park in New York City.
Coldplay, fronted by Chris Martin, and Ariana belted out their acoustic version of “Just A Little Bit of Your Heart” onstage and it sounded great.
Rolling Stone reports that Martin served as the event curator and that Grande was the band’s unannounced guest during their set. After performing their hit songs during the event, Coldplay made one more appearance when they joined Ed Sheeran on stage while performing his hit song “Thinking Out Loud.”
Ari’s appearance in New York over the weekend was perfectly timed with the Brooklyn leg of her Honeymoon Tour. The “Bang Bang” singer brought the house down during her first show at Barclay’s Center last Saturday, Billboard reports.
Her Honeymoon Tour, which kicked off earlier this year to promote her sophomore album “My Everything,” is slated to wrap up next month. It’s been a whirlwind summer for the 22-year-old pop star especially after receiving a lot of backlash from her donut-licking incident.
While the songstress already has apologized, the donutgate scandal seemingly had an effect on the ticket sales for the rest of her tour dates.
Music Times reports that after the incident, tickets for the Honeymoon Tour run minimally dropped. Data provided by TiqlQ shows a 13% decrease in ticket sales since the end of July.
Nevertheless, that still doesn’t stop the singer from creating good music. The “Victorious” star has been very active in dropping hints on Twitter about her upcoming album. She said that she intends to name her third studio album “Moonlight.”
During her latest guest appearance on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” to promote her new fragrance Ari, the songstress announced that the debut single from her upcoming album will be titled “Focus” and is scheduled to be released by the end of October.
