We may not have any official information regarding “GTA 6” so far, and it will likely stay that way for a while, but this certainly hasn’t stopped the rumor train from going strong, and there is a lot of talk about the game and what it could potentially include. While most of that talk is just speculation from fans, there has been the occasional alleged leak from Rockstar themselves, and whenever that happens, it usually mentions something interesting. Lately, there have been lots of claims that the studio is reportedly currently trying to decide on the game’s location – and now, another leak claims that Rockstar are also actively thinking about the game’s protagonist.
And the information is actually quite peculiar. If the rumor is true, “GTA 6” could actually be tied to another game by Rockstar, “Red Dead Redemption”, a crossover that the company has never done before in such a way. The protagonist of the new “GTA 6” will reportedly be a descendant of John Marston from “Red Dead Redemption” if Rockstar go with this decision, and that could certainly have some interesting implications for both games.
Other than painting a peculiar picture for “GTA 6”, it also raises some questions about Rockstar’s other franchise. Is the studio planning something new there soon, and could it actually be tied to “GTA” this time? Many people have been jokingly referring to “Red Dead Redemption” as “GTA with horses”, because the game does share a very similar gameplay style, only in a different setting. So the possibility for a crossover between the games exists on a higher level than simple plot references – although it’s not that likely that Rockstar will actually go so far.
The likelihood of this rumor being true is quite slim so far, but it does seem like a good possibility of Rockstar are trying to explore some more interesting ideas with “GTA 6”. The rumor has only been mentioned by one source right now, for what it’s worth, and there doesn’t seem to be any other indication that Rockstar could be planning this for the game’s protagonist. And even if they are, there are still at least a couple of years to go in that game’s development, so a lot could change until it’s ready to be shown to the public.
All things considered though, Rockstar seem to be putting a lot of effort into this title already, despite “GTA 5” still being quite hot – and if the studio does even half of the things that are being rumored about this game so far, it could easily be an absolute, market-redefining hit with a lot of success in the long term.
