Apple Watch Series 2 is a Welcome and Much-Needed Reboot of the Apple Watch That Puts Emphasis on Fitness, Say Critics

The Apple Watch Series 2 has been officially launched on September 7 and indicative of its huge success in the market, the smartwatch has been on a near-depletion state at the moment which makes both the customers and the Apple Store unhappy.

Because of the great success of the Apple Watch when it made it to the market in April last year, the expectations were quite high on the second iteration of the device, with some critics thinking that it would be a giant leap forward.

So when the Apple Watch Series 2 officially came out last month along with its revamped operating system, the same critics said that the device felt more like a reboot. Nonetheless, they are also one in saying that it is a welcome and much-needed reboot of the Apple Watch with emphasis on fitness, details the Financial Post.

The Apple Watch Series 2 brings along new great features including a brighter OLED display, full-on swim-proofing for water workouts, longer battery life, GPS for iPhone-free route tracking, and new variants like the upcoming Apple Watch Nike+, reports iMore.

Looks identical to its predecessor

At first glance, it would be easy to say that the Apple Watch Series 2 looks very identical to the Apple Watch. But if one is to put an original Apple Watch side-by-side to an Apple Watch Series 2, the difference shall become clearer.

Apparently, Apple focused on overhauling the internal hardware and cramming more pieces into the same amount of space instead of just slimming the Apple Watch down.

This move feels like the most appropriate course of action since it was the hardware that caused the first Apple Watch to stumble out of the gate for some.

The Apple Watch Series 2 has a dual-core processor, meaning it gets up to 50% faster speeds than the original. It also has a more powerful GPU, so it has twice the graphical capabilities.

Apple has also made the display more than two times brighter, claiming that it is 1000 nits, which is a unit of light intensity. It also says that it is the brightest screen it has shipped. This is particularly noticeable in the two extremes of bright sunlight or darkness. The added brightness actually makes the screen look like it has a sharper resolution.

More changes for the third iteration

But as they say in technology these days, no iteration is ever perfect so when some users were asked what they expect to see in Apple Watch Series 3 by next year, they had a number of wishes for the American tech giant.

The wish list includes ambient display technology so they can see the current time all the time, it should be thinner so that it fits under dress cuffs, it should have a larger 46-mm casing size for people who like big watches, an option for round-casing for people who don’t like square watches, and an even faster Apple Watch Series system-in-a-package.

In addition, they are also looking for the Apple Watch Series 3 to feature LTE networking for true iPhone independence, additional sensors for even better health tracking, titanium and other new casing materials for a sturdier build, and even more designer partnerships like Hermes and Nike.

Despite its success, most of the critics are also one in saying that amid the improvements of the Apple Watch Series 2 over its predecessor, the smart wearable from the American tech giant still lacks that particular killer app that would transform it into a must-have gadget.

They believe that the smart wearable must have something other than its stylish design and enhanced capabilities in order to really draw in the masses and force them to buy the Apple Watch Series 2.

apple-watch-2

But the problem does not just lie with the Apple Watch Series 2 or its predecessor but the whole plethora of smartwatches all over the market these days.

Others are saying that compared to the Apple Watch that was released last year, the Apple Watch Series 2 is a vast improvement especially with its fitness capabilities, swim-proof feature, and its GPS capability.
