While the design of the Apple Watch Series 2 was nothing major compared to its predecessor, the Apple Watch, the latest smart wearable from the American tech giant actually brings something new to the table to make it the perfect smart wearable for two things – swimming and GPS tracking.
At first glance, the Apple Watch Series 2 might actually be mistaken for the Apple Watch because it looks almost exactly the same.
But the software of the latest smart wearable from Apple somehow made the difference and highlighted its great features.
The screen of the Apple Watch Series 2 is a little bigger and everything runs a little faster but once the user jumps in a pool, that’s when he realizes the value of the smart wearable.
The swim feature of the Apple Watch Series 2 is what is clearly lacking in the first watch. The Apple Watch claimed to be a fitness tracker, but it excluded one of the most popular fitness activities in the world.
The American tech giant addressed that particular issue on the Apple Watch Series 2 and the smart wearable is now swimproof which means the water would not kill the phone and the new software can accurately track what the user is doing, turning it into a great all-round fitness tracker, reports the Independent of UK.
The other thing that the Apple Watch Series 2 is very good at is GPS tracking which comes in light of the addition of the GPS feature on the device that was not there in its predecessor smart wearable.
The Apple Watch Series 2 is able to tell where it is, even when it doesn’t have a companion phone. That makes it into a genuine running companion on its own, something it was regularly advertised as, but which was undermined a little by the fact that it needed the phone to properly track the user activity.
With such feature, the latest smart wearable from the American tech giant can easily take on the more devoted outdoor watches, which often are big, expensive, and not especially nice to look at.
Needs maintenance when it gets wet
One of the major features of the Apple Watch Series 2 is the fact that users can wear it in water, up to 50 meters deep, with no ill effects.
However, just because there’s a fancy water rating attached to the smart wearable, that doesn’t mean that the user does not have to do some maintenance on the Apple Watch Series 2 after getting it wet, notes C/Net.
It is important for the user to enable Water Lock before swimming or taking a shower with the smart wearable on.
After swimming in the pool, the user can unlock the watch and clear the speaker of any water by turning the Digital Crown for a few seconds.
A water icon will show up on the display as the user turns the dial and once it’s full, the watch will unlock, followed by playing a strange-sounding series of beeps and noises. The vibration from those noises, in not so elegant terms, spits the water out of the speaker.
Forgetting to enable the Water Lock feature
For those who got their Apple Watch Series 2 wet and forgot or did not have a chance to enable Water Lock, the user just needs to enable Water Lock through control center as soon as possible, and then unlock the watch. Doing so will force the watch to clear out any water inside the speaker. Repeating it a few times would be necessary until the user is confident that he has expelled all the water in the device.
Apple also recommends running the watch under warm tap water after swimming in the ocean or a pool in order to remove salt or chlorine. But before doing so, the user needs to make sure that he has already enabled the Water Lock feature.
