Apple Watch OS 2.0.1 Improves Battery Life and Security Measures; Offers Bug Fixes and New Emojis!

The American tech giant released its Apple Watch in March this year which came with the Apple Watch OS, which is the equivalent to the Android Wear on Android smartwatches, and Tizen on Samsung’s smart wearables.

Last month, Apple released an upgrade to its Apple Watch OS with the Apple Watch OS 2, bringing along a slew of bug fixes and new features. However, the Apple Watch OS 2 had a major downside when it caused software updates to the Apple Watch to stall or hang, leaving many users worried, agitated, or worst, angry.

Typical of Apple, the company does not take such critical issue sitting down so it immediately buckled down to work to develop an update to the Apple Watch OS 2.

True enough, on October 21, exactly a month after the American tech giant released the Apple Watch OS 2, the Apple Watch OS 2.0.1 was unveiled as an upgrade to the previous firmware update on the Apple Watch.

What it brings to the table

Apart from fixing the issue that could cause software updates to stall, the Apple Watch OS 2.0.1 improves the battery life of the Apple Watch as well as its various security measures.

It also comes with bug fixes and performance improvements including resolving issue that prevented a managed iPhone from syncing iOS Calendar events to the Apple Watch, addresses an issue that could prevent location information from properly updating, and fixes an issue that could cause Digital Touch to send from an e-mail address instead of a phone number.

The Apple Watch OS 2.0.1 also addresses an issue that could cause instability when using a Live Photo as a watch face as well as resolves the issue that allows the sensors to stay on indefinitely when using Siri to measure heart rate.

It also comes with several new emojis while maintaining the standout features of the Apple Watch OS 2 including the Nightstand mode, native apps, new watch faces, and more, notes MacRumors.

The Apple Watch OS 2.0.1 update can be downloaded through the dedicated Apple Watch app on the iPhone by going to the General and selecting Software Update.

In order to install the update, the Apple Watch must have 50% battery, it must be placed on the charger, and it must be in the range of the iPhone. However, in order for the iPhone to be used on updating the Apple Watch with the Apple Watch OS 2.0.1, it should have iOS 9.1 or iOS 9.0.2 onboard.

A ton of features

The Apple Watch was laden with a ton of features when it officially came out to the markets in March this year. But with the release of the Apple Watch OS 2 in September, it further brought new and refreshed features to enrich the Apple Watch user experience.

The Apple Watch OS 2 made Siri smarter, it made public transport to show up in Maps, and it also comes with new watch faces, notes Tech Radar.

With the OS 2, the Facebook Messenger app on the Apple Watch is now able to text, send audio files, and share locations right from the wrist.

The Digital Crown of the Apple Watch provides functionality beyond zooming in and out. Rotating the crown allows the user to use Time Travel showing various events up to 72 hours into the future or in the past right on the watch face.

Weather and news headlines are just some of the complications that Time Travel will have issues with. While it is to be a big part of the Apple Watch, it is cool seeing what the weather will be like if one has a calendar set up perfectly neat on upcoming appointments.
