After all the rumors going back and forth concerning the new version of the Apple iPod Touch, we’re now hearing reports that Apple are actually planning to release the device this fall, and they’re aiming at a price around $250-$300 per unit, with multiple different variants that will be put up on offer. So far, it sounds interesting – but is there still enough of a market demand for a device like this, or is this iPod going to flop?
This has been the biggest concern regarding the new iPod Touch, and the reason some people believe Apple are going to discontinue the line. With more and more people using their smartphones as their primary music players, the dedicated music player is becoming obsolete, except in the niche case of high-end players with integrated amplifiers and other special features like that.
But a device like the iPod Touch is essentially an iPhone without the cellular capabilities, so we’re curious if many people would be willing to buy one once it’s released. Let’s not forget that Apple’s special skill is convincing people that they need to buy something, so if they can pull of a successful marketing campaign for the new iPod Touch, we have no doubt that the device is going to be successful.
What is it going to bring to the table exactly? According to rumors, it will have a better processor and camera compared to the iPod Touch 5th generation, and will also be offered in several different color options. So far we’ve heard reports of pink, yellow, orange, green, blue and silver, as well as gray and a rumor of a golden option being available too.
The device is still going to use the lightning connector by Apple, and it will be running on the A5 processor, while its body will be made water resistant. The device will also come with various Siri features available right out of the box, and it will also integrate the mobile payment system by Apple, Apple Pay.
We mentioned above that there will be two different variants for the device, according to reports – those will be a 4.7 inch model and a 5.5 inch one, and both will have Retina display resolutions. This sounds quite good, and the price points we noted above also seem acceptable for a device with such specifications, so hopefully the new iPod Touch is going to get the attention it needs. Still, it might face some problems on the market, as not everyone might see that price as a good deal.
