Another rumor about the Apple iPod Touch 6G has been going around lately, and this time it’s claimed that the device is coming to the market in September. This is finally some good news for fans of the iPod line, after much speculation that Apple might be planning to scrap the entire line and focus on the iPhone and iPad instead.
Of course, this is still a rumor, but then again, so were the claims about killing off iPod, so we have no idea what the situation is at the moment. Only Apple truly know their plans, but for what it’s worth, this rumor has been gaining some traction and it seems to be spreading around quite fast. If it does actually end up true, that would be great news for fans of the iPod line, as the Touch is one of the most beloved variants of the popular music player.
What is it going to offer in terms of design? We have no idea so far, at least not on the official front – but sources are claiming that Apple are looking to continue the trend of releasing a device closely related to the most recent iPhone, mimicking its form factor and OS, but with a minor hardware downgrade (and of course, the obvious difference of removing cellular capabilities).
Apple are a secretive company and they are never going to admit to making a new iPod until they’re ready to present it on their own terms, and considering the lack of new releases in the iPod line – or any information in general – it would be a smart move of them to make a special event for the announcement of the new iPod Touch and give it special attention.
The device might come with Touch ID support as well as Siri on board, and it might be running on an A9 processor. Another interesting rumor claims that the new iPod Touch 6G is actually going to ship with iOS 9, which would indeed make it an interesting release.
Furthermore, Apple may also be looking into splitting this line a bit more, introducing a 4.7 inch and 5.5 inch versions of the music player. We don’t know if the two variants are going to have any specific hardware differences on the inside, or if it’s just a matter of screen size, but we wouldn’t be surprised if the internals are indeed a bit different.
Then we also have rumors that the device is going to have an 8 megapixel camera on the back, and a 1.5 megapixel one in the rear, while also offering a waterproof body to top it all off. That would make it a pretty versatile music device, and it could also hint at some potential developments in the iPhone line in the future.
The music player was supposed to be released last year, but after that didn’t happen, people started questioning the future of the line. It wasn’t long before the rumors about a possible cancellation started, and those have been going around for a while now. We have no idea if there’s any truth to them, but given the way the mobile market has been moving, we wouldn’t be surprised if it’s true.
Apple have indeed been making some progress with the iPhone and iPad, and more people are using their phones as music players nowadays. This trend is not even recent and it started before smartphones, but these devices made it significantly more convenient, and now it’s actually starting to be a bit rare to see somebody using a separate music player.
