The iPhone 6 didn’t come out that long ago, and yet the Internet is already full of rumors about the next entry in Apple’s smartphone line. This shouldn’t be surprising to anyone who’s been following the company and the community of fans surrounding it, as there are a lot of people out there who love to speculate about what Apple are up to. There are some rumors about the iPhone 7 which sound relatively plausible, however, and it should also be noted that some of them are coming from sources that have turned out to be correct before.
One of the most prominent rumors related to the new iPhone is about its camera. According to the leaks, Apple are paying special attention to this part of the iPhone 7’s design, and are trying to bring a revolutionary device to the smartphone market, capable of shooting DSLR quality pictures without compromising the form factor.
A smartphone with a huge camera won’t be that new of an idea – a recent example would be Nokia with the Lumia 1020 and its 41-megapixel camera – but a common problem that companies have faced in this regard is the physical design of the phone, as a larger camera also requires more space for its components, resulting in bulkier designs. If anyone knows how to make compact physical designs though, it’s Apple, so fans have ben confident that they really will try making a device with an advanced camera.
A side display may also be featured in the new design. It’s not known if the design will be similar to the Samsung Galaxy Edge, or an entirely new approach. Critics commenting on the Edge have often called the side screen a gimmick without much use at the moment, and if Apple want to add something like this to their devices, it could indicate that they have a more interesting application planned for it.
3D displays are also a relatively new concept when it comes to smartphones, and Apple might have plans to explore this area as well. Whether or not this will have any useful applications, or it will be featured as some extra eye candy, remains to be seen – but there certainly is some potential for useful innovations related to the use of a 3D display. All in all, there are plenty of possibilities for what Apple could do with the new iPhone. The company has recently been criticized for not innovating enough, as their latest releases in the iPhone line have been quite similar to their previous ones. According to some more prominent rumors, Apple have been listening, and are planning something more revolutionary for the release of the iPhone 7.
