It’s been rumored for a while that Apple are planning to get back to their standard game with the iPhone 7, making the device as innovative and original as possible. This will be in contrast to the release of the iPhone 6, which was met with moderate reactions from fans, who were left somewhat underwhelmed by what the phone had to offer compared to previous entries in the line. And while it’s not known exactly how they plan to achieve that yet, a recent leak about the iPhone 7 has hinted at a significant hardware upgrade, which could be part of Apple’s plan.
In particular, the leak talks about the RAM of the new device. The iPhone 7 is reported to come with 2 GB of RAM, two times that of the iPhone 6 – while Apple are also planning to upgrade the iPad, bringing it up from 2 GB of Ram to 4. This change has been requested by fans for quite a while now, actually – a smartphone with 2 GB of RAM is nothing out of the ordinary nowadays, with various other companies having similar offers in their lines. Of course, iOS is also developed in a certain way that makes more optimal use of the hardware, but various apps can still bring the device’s demand quite highly up.
Rumors also claim that the new iPhone is running on an A8 processor and will have 256 GB of internal storage. The rear camera will have a 14 MP sensor, while the front one will come with a 4 MP one. Additionally, Apple are reportedly looking into ways to improve the device’s durability, particularly in the screen. This has been a common problem with smartphones in general, and even though Gorilla Glass has improved a lot over the years, it’s still not perfect.
According to the rumors, Apple are going to use sapphire in the glass in order to strengthen it even further, although it’s not clear if they’re designing it on their own or if they’re working with an external company like Corning for this purpose. Given Apple’s design trends, it’s very likely that they might want to approach this on their own, as they certainly have the capabilities for that too.
In any case, if the company wants to see the iPhone 7 with a successful release, they’re going to have to improve their offer quite a bit. The iPhone 6, while liked by most fans of the brand, still left some feeling a bit disappointed, as there were expectations for more powerful hardware and more interesting features in the new iOS release.
