Thanks to Chinese website Bastille Post, the world was provided a closer look at the design of Apple’s upcoming flagship phone, the iPhone 7.
The potential first legit design of the upcoming handset reveals the back and top portions only.
No confirmation yet if the latest leak is authentic, but some reports say that the photo came from a very reliable source.
According to the website, the latest phone takes the design of its predecessor, but the most notable change in this year’s generation of the smartphone is the inclusion of a dual-lens camera.
The potentially legit leaked design specifically shows the iPhone 7 having a dual-lens camera set-up, Smart Connector, and redesigned antennas.
Express UK notes that the use of dual-lens camera has been rumored for quite a long time now and all other 3D renderings surfacing on the internet seem to show the iPhone 7 carrying the dual-lens camera feature.
The dual-lens camera is accompanied by a microphone and an LED flash, as seen on previous models.
The antenna bands have been repositioned along the top and bottom edges as most websites predicted.
Meanwhile, there are conflicting reports whether the iPhone 7, the iPhone 7 Plus, and a new iPhone 7 Pro will carry the dual-lens camera feature.
Sources inside Apple’s chain are reportedly in a disagreement that only one model should ship the feature or that at least one of the upcoming variants should not come with the two-camera set up.
While it wasn’t confirmed on the recently leaked image, reports claim that the iPhone 7 series will drop the 3.5mm headphone jack in favor of an all-in-one Lightning connector for audio output, charging, and connectivity.
The removal of the 3.5mm jack was already a rumor swirling around for the iPhone 6 model and the company has been vocal that they were indeed trying to find ways to remove the jack, but it still isn’t certain if it will finally happen with the iPhone 7.
According to MacRumors, another leaked photo earlier emerged that seems to corroborate the most recent one.
This time, the photo shows the full back portion of the upcoming device and three dots toward the bottom of the iPhone is noticeable. This appears to be for a Smart Connector, a new interface first introduced on the iPad Pro.
The Smart Connector can transmit both data and power at the same time for use with accessories.
While the Smart Connector was a special feature in the iPad Pro, it is still unknown how it would be used on an iPhone.
Aftermarket iPhone modification company Feld & Volk has already prepared its own custom version of the device and has already created several renderings that give a higher quality view of what the iPhone 7 would look like assuming the design on the leaked image is accurate.
It also included the upcoming device’s new features such as the dual lens camera housed in a single oval-shaped protrusion and a Smart Connector near the bottom of the device.
Feld & Volk believes that the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus will indeed use the dual-lens camera set up. The company also predicts that the iPhone 7 will measure approximately 6.1mm thick, thinner than the iPhone 6s, and similar to the current iPod Touch 6th Generation.
Apple is preparing to hold a media event on March 21 where they will likely announce the heavily rumored 4-inch iPhone and a next-generation iPad Air.
It’s likely that the Cupertino-based company will mention the iPhone 7 and also entertain questions about it. The iPhone 7 is expected to make its way in September which is the standard timeline for the tech giant’s flagship smartphone devices.
The company has been mum on the details of the upcoming phone making it a subject of many speculations and predictions.
