After much speculation about the release of the iPhone 6S, there might finally be some clarity in the situation – Apple are possibly planning to start taking preorders for the new phone on September 18, according to the most recent rumors. We don’t know if that’s true yet and it’s not very easy to confirm either, but it definitely sounds plausible, especially given the total silence we’ve had from Apple recently.
The information is reportedly coming from an internal source at Vodafone, where an e-mail has been circulating internally informing employees that they should prepare to start taking preorders for the phone on September 18. However, the e-mail doesn’t actually specify any particular iPhone model – it just talks about “the new iPhone”. This is similar to how Apple handled the release of the iPad, but hopefully they aren’t going to introduce the same confusing naming convention in the iPhone as well.
We don’t know what the device is going to offer in terms of specifications yet, but there are certainly plenty of rumors about that. Users have been speculating that this is likely going to be a scaled down version of the standard iPhone 6, possibly with small differences in hardware specifications (other than the obvious change of display, of course). Other rumors are claiming that it’s actually going to be better than the iPhone 6, looking back at the iPhone 4.
Another rumor claims that Apple are actually preparing to release more than one device in their phone line this year, and it’s even been speculated that they will release not two but three new iPhone models, with the third one being an even smaller device, rumored to come with a 4-inch screen.
That could be a budget version of the original device, similar to the iPhone 5c, but we don’t know how much it would tone down the system specifications. We also have no information about the possible price of the smaller device yet, but we expect it to have a good chunk of the price taken off to match what it has to offer.
The iPhone 6 had an 8 megapixel camera on the back, and the new iPhone is expected to upgrade that to a 12 megapixel sensor. We don’t know if that will be the only thing changing in the camera of the new model, or if it would also have other differences, but there have been rumors that Apple have done even more work on its image processing capabilities, something which was already a major feature in the previous iPhone.
